Large car 359, which turbo did you install, what is your boost now, and do you end up with any flat spots... say at around 1600 -1500 (shifts) or around 2000 RPM top side? I'm real interested in this and also mileage changes. I'm running the stock Cat turbo that was on my B before I had this C block built with my B parts... of course the block is fresher and has the wide bearings and double cooling nozzles so I plan to get it more extreme when I find the right Cat Man...

Did you update those pistons to the lower compression two piece steel crown set?

You want to hear other feedback on the 177148 there are a few guys on the diesel garage that are running that turbo.

I had the 199119 turbo on the truck. Went with the 177148. I explained my experience a little earlier in this post. Overall, you'll be happy with it over the one you have. I have zero flat spots, and it does not have the lag that the 199119 turbo had. Fuel mileage is slightly better, turbo is much smoother and is boosting a hair over 30 psi. Which is better boost then the other turbo. Installation took a day.

Smokin Cat, yes the pistons are the newer 2 piece style. And Large Car 359, I'm looking at the177148 for this build. I believe Smokin Cat mentioned that I'll be able to use the oil feed and return for the 3406E to alleviate fabrication, although my curve tube, turbo to Intercooler is 3 3/4"... how is the best way to handle this as I believe the turbo compression output is 4". Thanks to you both for the tech info and especially your experience. Bob

If you want to do the swap without changing the tube then you need this piece here from area diesel. It is designed to save people from having to buy a $400 tube.

Cool..! That's the ticket... Thanks brother. Looks like O-rings on the outer surface seal to the compression housing outlet... I'm guessing stock tube rings seal the interior of the adaptor.? Doesn't look like too much restriction at the connection... although a 4.25 to 3.75 crossover would probably have less air flow restriction. How much should I expect to pay for that shiny piece of machine work... I priced the turbo today... $1500.

Won't be any restriction due to the opening that comes out of the compressor housing being much smaller than the tube diameter.

Yes you would use your stock tube o-rings for the inner ones, i use oil on the o-rings when I assemble, it doesn't seem to evaporate after time so I am usually able to remove the tube.

Ahhh yes... Hey brother... Check out a sweet product from NAPA called Sil Glyde. Silicone based, it doesn't deteriorate rubber like petro based products. I use it on hood stoppers and filter rings, anything rubber and more. Inexpensive for a big tube, I love the stuff.
