CB for dummies

    The last CB I bought was for my dump truck. I bought it at the flying j just stock. It was a 29. I got new coax and Francis antennas. It works ok if I can see the other person but I can't talk to people more than a mile or two away and it is as flat as a pancake with virtually no trees here.

    I have three truck stops within 8 miles of me. I can be at my house in the evening and do radio checks and no one has ever heard me nor do I hear anyone else talking.

    The antenna and "MIC" is key to a good radio, besides a good tune. The SRA 198 Mic is the way to go, unless you can find an old original Turner 56. I have both and prefer the SRA 198 over the the 56. Also like said above, Francis are beyond a good starter antenna. If you run a single antenna make sure it clears your trailer if you pull a box trailer.

    I would suggest try to figure out what exactly was wrong with those radios you already have, if it is not one radio, but all of them, may be you are barking at the wrong tree? I don not know, may be try the same set on a different vehicle or try to change components(radio, cable, antenna, mic).

    Even new out of the box pieces may be defective or get damaged during installation/use.

    I need another one anyway for the Pete. I only have one CB currently and it is in the dump truck.

    I would have issues with buying a cb that is tuned and peaked and not knowing really who and how and no way to test it.

    Can you give some 411 on this mic. When I google it, not much 411 is given. Ebay has one and the seller lists it as VINTAGE.
