Heading to Prime on 1/11/16. Applied last Monday, they cleared my background and verified all my employers so I got the all clear today.
I couldn't find much threads on experienced drivers coming here so I figured I'd start one.
About me, got my cdl 12/12 so I'll be going on my 4th yr. Started otr, then did regional and finally local. I was also a fleet manager at JB hunt during that stint.
Also I never made less than 60k a year driving a truck so despite all the naysayers it can be done. Never leased either but I am always open minded if the numbers make sense.
Going reefer, I'll start at .46 (with the lw). Was told I'll do a 3 day orientation and then get my truck. Will keep you guys updated.

Congrats on the Prime gig, im deciding between them and TMC, both seem well structured. I'll follow this thread. Keep us updated on how things turn out there.

wondering how you go from OTR to regional to local then now what back to OTR?darthanubis Thanks this.
-
Yeah running local just had me really tired. Ran 14 to 16 hour days (you get one 16 hour day a week legally) then I had a 1 hour commute home. Basically I would just sleep and hygiene at home, most nights I didn't even have time to unwind.
I know I can always go local anytime, looking forward to this new adventure.darthanubis, Florida Playboy, moose97 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I believe you will have the Smith System class and the Sims to complete.
They have the Campus Inn on the property where you will stay. Husband said food was good. He's been there a couple of years now. -
Guess I'm going to orientation at salt lake city since it's closer to me. Might get there early and see if I can get some snowboarding in
FullMetalJacket, NavigatorWife and jomar68 Thank this. -
Well good luck on the snowboarding. I don't know what the setup is their for people incoming. He has eatin there a few times while he has had his truck in for the shop. His worst complaint, esp at Springfield is the lack of parking room, and how long it takes to go through the lines to fuel, etc.

VERY TRUE! For my regional, I live 15 min from the terminal. Dispatch doesn't say, "hey, we'll factor in an extra half hour for your commute plus consider your family has a different schedule." No, they expect me to be available 10 hours after I go off duty. So if I'm done at 3pm, run to the grocery store then drive home, then wait for the wife and kid, I might get 4 hours sleep (like last night) so I can get up at 2am to shower and drive to Cicero. It's a sacrifice to be able to see the family, but it can burn you out.darthanubis and crazeydude Thank this.

I read a thread about container hauling in Chicagoland area, that was just as bad. The person had very little sleep and ran the hours to the last minuet.
I think OTR must be a whole lot better in a lot of ways. -
Do you have link to the thread?
