I am looking for some outside prospective. I have been noticing a large decrease in miles and a lot more CH Robertson freight. I'm not doing the kind of miles I once have done. I have been out for two weeks now and this week and last week have only been 1800 miles,I train so there are two in the truck it seems to me that this holiday season is turning out to be a slow one. The weeks prior to thanksgiving I was struggling to pick up 2500 miles a week. So is my ship sinking or is it just a slow economy

Here in the LTL world, we're busy as can be.

Online shopping is taking flight. The big ltl's are busy as can be including contracting with many outside firms just to keep up. Bet Amazon posts some ginormouse profits this year.

In the past we would pick up more ups or fedex freight at this time but none to be seen. I was suspecting my company was losing contracts

    Simple economics.
Low wages, less disposable income, low freight movement.
Looks like after Christmas sales, will be booming.
The reason I got into trucking..low wages and part time work.
Getting the house and car notes paid,is my main objective.
    Not much left over.

The private fleet I drive for hasn't slowed one bit with no shortage of backhauls to get us back towards the DC's for another outbound load.

    I'm still doing 3000+ a week.

Guys at my previous common carrier have been a little off but they're still getting 25-2800 a week.

Not slowing down for me, I'm running my ### off. Week I left the house was a bit slow with only 2100, starting next week with a 1400 to do by Sunday.

I would suggest getting with a company that does both Dry Van and Refrigerated. When we had the recession back in 2008 the drivers that hauled Reefer were not as severely impacted as the drivers that worked for companies that only hauled dry vans. You want to be able to haul a variety of freight to be in the best position.
