I'm new to this site and I have a few questions regarding Air Liquide buying Airgas. I was just hired on at Airgas as a class A company driver doing the same dedicated route as a shuttle driver. I work for the Airgas Plant delivering what that particular plant produces. Airgas is currently made up of a lot of separate companies and divisions. Does anyone know if Airgas is going to be brought in under one umbrella working under Air Liquide? If so, are Air Liquide drivers in a union? One thing that I know for sure is that some Airgas drivers are union, some are not. The last thing I want to do is start asking these questions to anyone at Airgas since Ive just been hired on there.

I work for Airgas also. Not all Airgas locations are Union. It's has to be voted on by employees. The only definite that I'm getting my my district manager is that Air Liquide bought Airgas. It's going to take at least six months for the purchase to go through. We're not even sure if our name will be changed or if will be DBA Airgas. I am told that the purchase is a good thing. The freaking stock went through the roof when the announcement was made.
What plant do you work out of?White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
I'm in the midwest. I'd prefer not to give my exact location being that Im brand new to this site and brand new to Airgas

Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to go to work for Airgas. I'm getting paid a great hourly wage and there are all kinds of bonuses and benefits. But since the news of Air Liquid buying Airgas, I can't help but wonder what changes are due to be happening in the coming months

Union driver here in Hawaii and are Teamsters. Third buyout for me but union always transferred over to the next company with no change of benefits until contract expiration. If you want a voice, better pay, benefits, organize and join the union. Sign up below and tell your coworkers to do so also. It's all confidential and Airgas can't fire you for talking or trying to organize.
Print this federal law The National Labor Relations Act and pass them out to your coworker and your managers and post a copy in the lunch room. If you get harassed by anybody, bypass all your managers and call Kayla Dang at HR and tell them that mangers are harassing you and she need to take action immediately.

So I officially am appointing you to be the shop steward and get it rolling.thejackal and skinnytrucker Thank this. -
I was informed by 2 of the drivers at the plant we are out of that some union reps have recently been in contact with most the drivers at our location and only 1 out of 8 expressed any interest in becoming union. As the new driver at this location, I'm not going to push anything after hearing that. If it were ever brought to a vote I would have no problem about joining as long as the terms were good.
White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
I drive for Air Liquide and our location isn't union, we're paid on what they call "piece work". Think of it by activity (miles, load/unload, etc.). They aren't really telling us whats going to happen about the buyout.
