Neither type holds a load better. They are the same in that regard.
Levers are faster you just hook it right and flip it. The ratchets you have to unscrew to open them then ratchet them tight. It isn't a big deal but does take a little longer.
The big plus is ratchets are much safer and if the load shifts you just ratchet it a bit more and it is tight again. With the lever if it gets loose you have to unhook grab the next link and try again.
I have been to jobsites where lever types are prohibited due to safety reasons. I believe MSHAW the mining regulatory agency prohibits them.Bay Thanks this. -
I've used both and prefer snap binders for saving time but prefer ratchets for saving time when retightening them. I've been hit in the inside of my elbow with a snap binder and it brought me to tears. But you just have to be careful.
Diesel Dave and MJ1657 Thank this. -
I used adjustable snap binders and never had any problem. Didn't lose my teeth until radiation treatment for neck cancer.
I can't smile like that any more.....

They have what's called safety binders, they look like snap binders201 Thanks this.

Has anyone used this style of fold over ratchet binders? They are only about $10 more than the regular style and seem like they would take up a lot less space in storage.

Those are pretty slick. If I were still doing flatbed, I'd get one or two to try out. If they work out and worth the extra $10, I'd get more. If you get some, let us know how they work out for you.

I used them a couple times when I ran someone else's trailer. I found they were annoying to flip them into position and didn't like that they could flip possibly when ratcheting.
Space was never a concern for me though. The ones I used were old and rusty tbf. I'm also fussy on my binders. -

I use those kind. 3/8-1/2 binders with a 13kWLL. I have those kinds and snap binders. I put machine hooks on one side of 4 of them. First thing I reach for when I'm pulling machinery.
