Sometimes all an officer is doing is checking on the status of your drivers license. With all the new stuff at the scales you can never know what they are doing. Depending on what is happening you really want to watch and make sure you at least flag the check on your logs. However the biggest thing you want to watch out for is your time management. Don't get to that next scale before you should if you were running legal. What I am about to tell you is not a myth. In the states that still maintain a 55 MPH speed limit for trucks some of them do compliance audits at the carriers. Mostly this is to audit IFTA compliance. However some truckers have got speeding tickets from their logs. Several states are also bad about sending you tickets for violations found on state inspection forms, even if the officer did not write a ticket at the time. I have seen both with my own eyes.
