I need some advice I'm thinking of leaving my first choice in a company usx and going with another one, at first I thought I would like teaming and being out long periods at a time but now I'm realizing this other company averitt I would make a little less money but would enjoy it a lot more.
I already applied if I were to get signed up for orientation what is the best way about quitting usx as to not have a black mark on my record? Just not be under a load? I know not sticking with one company might look bad but I need a better training program and I would end up waiting a long time for a new trainer who might end up being way worse

I would tell averitt you can start in a month or so. Then give usx your two weeks notice. That way in case usx keeps you out longer just to spite you you have that extra two week cushion to fall back on.
MidWest_MacDaddy and Sneakerfix Thank this. -
How long at USX?
-
not long at all like a month but it's all been in training not actual counting exp.
-
Why Averitt; you just want dry van?
-
Averitt has an all automatic fleet. If you go with Averitt and never get experience with a standard transmission, you will be severely limited if you want to go to a better company later in your career. There was an Averitt driver on here that started a thread where he asked Chinatown to recommend a better job, but it had to be with another all-auto company because he didn't know how to shift gears. Some companies may even require you to go back to school (at your expense) before they'll hire someone who can't shift gears. If it was me, I'd stick it out for at least a year.Chewy352 and NavigatorWife Thank this.

I thought USX was 100% autos too?

Hello DC843........ OK, so you're getting ancy (ancie) with your choice of companies, right ? OK, not to worry, that's normal in this biz. You think another co. will be better. But, will it ? Just like the co. you're with now.... sounded perfect, right ? OK, here's the straight scoop.......... they're all the same ! Just different names on the door ! Trucking co. that hauls freight, right ? Has to be loaded certain time/delivered certain time, right ? You deal with traffic/weather/police agencies/security grunts/fuel stops etc etc.
Ok, Ok. but wait a minute. Now it boils down to "home time" you say. So, you think, OK, I'll bail from this co. and sign on with another co. Then life will be grand ! Really ? OK, here's a suggestion. Make the best with the company you're with ! ! ! OK, now go, onward, conquer Son !ACnTN, Highway Sailor, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
@DC843 I agree with @Allow Me. You made a choice to go to USX. They are investing a lot of money in training you to drive their truck. Suck it up and stick it out with them for at least 6 months, preferably a year. Then, if things are not to your liking, move on. The grass IS greener on the other side. However, it's only greener because the sun hits it at a slightly different angle.
@Allow Me. I think you were looking for "antsy".
mountaingote Thanks this. -
You have been there for a month. Stick it out for 5 more. Then go if you didn't sign a contract. But not at 1 month in. Averitt isn't going to be any different then usx. But seriously don't jump ship one month in.

nobody has really answered your question but good advice none the less.people quit all the time in this industry. Companies could care less.if you have a way home then ask dispatcher to route you to terminal and clean trk out.lie if you have to like I need to take a leave of absence that way if it doesn't work out with averitt u have a job to go back. but I would request home time then tell dispatch and clean your trk out.they'll give u a load back to terminal you hand in keys tools everything issued to you and you'll probably get transportation paid for back home.Last edited: Dec 13, 2015
