Nothing in the rags say you have to sleep, its 10 hours off duty, the only requirement for sleeper berth in split log.
-
Well, at least some folks have something to cry about for two years

They just did! For me my and my old iron.ramblingman, TGUNKEL and Al. Roper Thank this.

I've been running a 96' since I started as an O/O. Shes been a good ol girl beating all our late model 2012+ peterbilts and kenworths in reliability, power and fuel mileage. Was thinking of putting her guts into a glider, but I guess i'll just clean her up now that she's exempt from E-logs
.
Junkyard Johnney and Al. Roper Thank this. -

Another exemption is that if one is required to run logs 8 or less days in a 30 day period then they are exempt from Elogs. This should apply to many seasonal ag haulers and people like myself that use our trucks to haul our construction equipment. We also have 2 mechanical 89 Pete's with 3406B's, so I am obviously happy with the exemptions. Anyone want to buy a truck?

I ran over the road in the 80's and got out of it in 94 because of government intrusion at that time. I guess there is no way I would be happy running OTR now. I feel for you o/o's that are still dealing with this crap. We could always make the log book fit what we needed to do, and get enough rest in doing so, because we could sleep when we were tired, and run the rest of the time. We also adjusted our own brakes and clutch, serviced our own rigs, and performed many repairs ourselves. I greased my truck weekly in order to make myself get under it and look at things. Every time you walked up to the truck after loading, fueling, whatever, you did a visual truck inspection. Most things that would go wrong gave a hint by smell, feel, watching gauges, etc. and we could get them fixed prior to becoming a problem.
I guess that with the increase in freight volume and demand for drivers those days had to come to an end, but I am not sure that things are safer now. We used to talk to one another and know about road conditions, accidents, etc. prior to getting to the scene. Rarely do I hear CB's even used anymore, and with all the crap that you hear on them it is no wonder.
I guess I am just old and looking back on a great time, nothing unusual about that. We didn't have GPS or cell phones, and the only stipulation was that most brokers wanted a phone call once a day to know how things were going.
Blast from the past over, thanks for indulging me.jdiesel3406 and rocknroll81 Thank this. -
