I have slept all buttoned up and woke up short of breath for sure. I Freightshakers we used to run had terrible air quality for the man in the bunk if the driver shut off the engine blower. If he shut the curtains and the driver shut off the blower it was low oxygen for sure.

 

And that's assuming you idle 10 hours a day every day. I rarely idle unless the temperatures are excessively hot or cold or my battery meter shows the voltage below 12.5 volts. My idle time is sitting at 9% right now.

 

The "indoor safe" Mr. Heater propane heaters have a CO detector that shuts the thing off if the CO gets too high. If there is enough oxygen in the atmosphere, there will be almost no CO produced by a propane heater. The moment you have an incomplete burn (for lack of oxygen or whatever reason), CO is produced.

So you stake your life on a CO detector made by the lowest bidder in China.

 

I wouldn't buy one made by the Sum Ting Wong Corporation.

 

CO is denser than air though. It'll hang out on the floor below the window. Most bunks I see are below the bottom of the window.
