I absolutely love the paperless system as you can never be "forced" into anything. I mean it beats writing out a paper log anyday saving both time and possible aggravation. Really can't believe it hasn't become the standard given the general movement with everything else towards technology. Only downside is sometimes it registers movement when no movement is made and maybe you send message going to a certain duty status and doesn't register...So then u just have to send in a correction mac but usually gets fixed with no hassles. Also have my mobile broadband connection with gps but not real time...good for verifying company sent directions and get a better idea of turns and what not but no company provided turn-by-turn gps.

    ferocious Thanks this.

    Hey Derekb7
Good to hear your thoughts on the paperless system i figuerd they should be a wee bit simpler and more efficaiant that that paper mess, i have been show man oh man,
And sounds like any errors can be sorted out and i agree how can you be forced over hours drive time ? i understand it also tells you you are running out of hours ? so gives you time to find a place to hold up?

The recruter who came to our school also told us about the EZ pass for the scales ? sounds like a good thing but not spoken to any werned drivers about this yet and am intrested in the werner computer GPS info or imput. I have used a None comercial GPS and that was awsome and the one i found on line is for commercial use, you have a nice 7 inch screen that you can atach on your dash, all you do is put in your truck details (including any Haz mat ect) and it will give you a Truck route avoiding all the bridges, hight restrictions ect even gives you currant road works (and truck stops ect) for your whole trip and is updated each day well worth the $500 i would say mate?

Well i got half my CDL A test passed today just messed up on a few things on my road trip. we used a Mac for the test only done 3 hours on that and wished i could have used the Volvo as had way more hours on that oh well retest next week and a few more free hours of road driving from the school to sort me out

Ok mate till next time drive safe

Werner doesn't have GPS they have routing, which is laughable at best. I hate their routing. With a passion. This is why I got my own GPS and permission from my dispatcher to use it over their system.

Prepass - not ez pass - is fairly common, basically if a scale is open and has it it will either green or red light you. Green light means keep on rolling and I have gotten the green light 80% of the time, red light means stop on in.

Now I have yet to figure out what the yellow light is for. Or what to do when I get red lighted and the scale is closed... which happened in GA.

When you find out about the yellow light let us all know. I never could figure that out.

Personally i'd like it to flash the yellow light when I go through the EZPass Fastlane to let me know it worked... always have to wonder when I go through them if the thing worked or not.

I met a werner driver that had been out solo for about a week last October or so. He was in PA off of I-70 and trying to figure out his route, and how to get to the Terminal in Ohio before his hours ran out.
With the routing he was given he would have never made it in time. I had to go over the map with him and have him send several messages to his dispatcher, so that he would understand (with the blessing of dispatch) that the shortest route is not always the best.
He felt much better after, he had never thought that it he would be able to run the best way, instead of the routed way.
Hopefully he did better after that. He had run his first few loads following the routing exactly, even though several times it had him on back roads near the interstate, when the interstate went where he was going. Some of these darn routing programs are just crazy. Putting you on a business route because it is .02 miles shorter and such.

In his case though it was mostly the toll road messing with him. They had him routed around the turnpike, instead of on it. He had run out of hours 2 times his first week, just trying to follow routing and deliver on time.

ChromeDome, thanks for being a true professional. Too many out here are in it for themselves and would rather ridicule someone on the CB than helpm them out. Especially if they drive for one of those companies that many see as the "bottom of the barrel."

    Hi Guys
well now i have my Clas-A in my hand and it was quite some work to get it done but got there in the end.
Now the hardest part of this whole new career who to go with to continue next step in training, I do have a job offer with Werner, the sad thing is i read so much on this website with so much negativity about losts of truck companies its ral hard to sort fact from fiction, and sorting out the people who genuinly have been screwd or people who would be unhappy in any job situation.

So i appreciate Derekb7s write up which i found very good and up frount , now i supose its like been fed to the wolves in some respects, I want to run OTR for a while any way till i get my head round this industry and decide where i want to live, but its real hard to know how to make the right choices, I have spent maybe as much time reaserching companies as i did attending truck school.

I am probably going to go with gut feeling and just stick with who ever i am with and just do it and give it my best shot and then after a year or so see if i want to stay or move on, let me know your comments on this from the experienced drivers out there
    Thanks and drive safe.
