Anybody else have them? I get them periodically. Last night mine was about clipping a load of beams hanging off the end of a flatbed. He was broke down on the shoulder but wasn't all the way over and the beams stuck out into the right lane. It was a blind corner and I didn't see it until it was too late.
I used to take "steering wheel naps" (in a daycab) at shippers who took a long time to load. Sometimes I'd dream about wrecking because of the forklift shaking the truck and I'd stomp on the brake and go "AHHH!"
I wish I had video of that. Good times.

I don't, but my friend the other night jumped out of the bed in the middle of the night, because he thought the truck was rolling. He said he was scared to death, started to brake, shift in lower gear and then he finally woke up realizing that he is going nowhere and truck is parked at the receiver's empty parking lot

No, but I did take a steering wheel nap one night, off on the side of a side road off the freeway when I was too tired to drive safely... Set my alarm for thirty minutes, woke up a little bit earlier, thinking that I had fallen asleep driving and gone off the road... I think the adrenaline kept me awake for the next three days.

When I started my career I met an old timer at a truck stop that gave me several good pieces of advice. One of which pertains to this thread.
Never nap in the drivers seat. If you get so that you can nap there, it makes it a lot easier to fall asleep while driving.
As for the nightmare thing, the last one I remember I was awakened by loud thumping. When I looked out my window there stood a hidious meth using lot lizard. I closed my curtain and the nihhtmare went away.Canadianhauler21, LoneCowboy, RedBeardedT and 8 others Thank this. -
Mine was leaving dock while the forklift driver was still in trailer.it happened before with another driver delivering to cave.he left and got all the way out before he realized the forklift driver was in the trailer when he got at the guard shack.it was a five minute drive and a steep climb.forklift driver made a joke out of it.so after he told me that story kept thicken I hope I don't leave whIle cust is still in trl.

Years ago there was a story going around about a driver that saw a friend sleeping in a lot, and so he pulled up in front of his truck with lights and air horn going.....his friend came out of the sleeper and died of a heart attack....
I dreamed on time that I had just got into an accident....woke up and I had been sleeping on my arm and it was numb and I could not feel it, and thought my arm had been cut off in the wreck.Last edited: Dec 19, 2015

Back in the day, I stopped at the Flying J in McCammon,ID to stop and do laundry, shower and a bite to eat. Left there heading to the Carolinas. Jump on Hwy 30 heading east to Montpelier, ID. As I get close to town, it quiet and pitch black the Hwy opens up to 3 lanes turning lane in the middle. All of a sudden I hear a thump! It's sounded like someone throw a brick at my sleeper. I stand the brake, throw on the 4 ways and jump out. I walked pass the trailer and seen what looked like to me to be a deer. I felt bad for him, as I approached, the closer I got it in the darkness except my flashing trailer lights it started to appear like a human! I ran up to it and yes it was a woman in her late 50's all jacked up like pretzel. I run back to my truck and grab my cell and dial 911. They asked me to feel for a pulse, there was none. At this point I'm freaking out. Cops and Paramedics show up and confirm she is gone. DOT pulls up and gave me a drug and alcohol test on the scene. Does a complete driver and truck inspection, measured my stop marks. And they found out that she was intoxicated on pills and was lost from Oregon. I was free to go. The trooper shined his light on my grill and her dentures were broke off in it. NEVER SEEN HER! I was driving a new 379 long hood at the time. That's my nitemare that still haunts me to this day.
