You pay for more than 1 hour of wait time? That's a joke. All of my time at work is worth money and will be compensated. And for your comments about running a business, I have ran my own business for the last 16 years. It has gotten to the point of not being profitable anymore, so I'm shutting it down. Not trying to make up the difference by screwing my employees.

You say other drivers make $15 per hour or less? Well, that's a joke too. I believe you said you're in the aggregates business? Well, I work for a building materials company and make almost double that. With time and a half after 8 and double time after 12. That's another thing employers like you like to leave out when you try to compare to an hourly wage. All the overtime your drivers are getting screwed out of by being paid piecework. Even the burger flipper at McDonald's gets paid overtime, so why the hell wouldn't a professional driver? Because the employer justifies it by using an exemption that is illegally used most of the time. And besides, who would want to work for an employer that looks for any loopholes to cheat the employee?

Like you said, your shutting down. Enough said. 16 years and failure. My drivers make more than most drivers doing anything around here. Being your shutting down you do not make double of anything at all. I have numerous ex OTR drivers because they make more and are home every night. I drove for myself for a while so I know the deal out there. Drivers are free to do as they choose and they choose to get paid by the load, that's their decision. My flatbed driver chose to be paid percentage over mileage as well.

If you can't make money with fuel prices where they are at that's obsurd.

Sounds like another disgruntled driver that's never been happy for whatever reason, or the conspiracy theory type that thinks everyone is out to get them or the employer is always trying to screw them or what have you. I am available all day at my shop for drivers if they need something, they can talk to me at anytime and we have a very close knit group, and none of them are getting screwed at all in any way. Like I said, what's the hourly rate and how much are drivers getting, no one can seem to answer that question for me. Cause they know I am probably paying more at 25 percent than they are hourly

We in general stay at 85 an hour or better on average so that's 21.50 an hour for the most part. Some of the good runs we have are better than that, and the better drivers of course take care of those runs. theres no weird ratios or money I take out before I pay the guys. Whatever there truck grosses a week they get 25 percent of that. Do the math and see who tells you what the truck grosses at most if not every place? Unless you have those answers don't comment on what you think of how I do things. Especially don't comme t if your unable to stay in business. Like taking marital advice from a 3 time divorcee. I give fuel incentives to my guys for better driving habits and fuel economy. They get percentage Christmas bonuses and performance bonuses.

Disgruntled driver? Ha Ha. Just a safe driver with half a brain. I get paid when I work. Fair and simple. It's not a conspiracy theory to know when I'm getting cheated.

To answer your question, $27.50 with time and a half over 8 and double over 12. From the time I drive in the gate until the time I drive out.

You probably pay more than 95% of the other driving jobs. I don't think anyone is disputing that. But that doesn't mean anything when over 99% of the driving jobs are not worth having these days. Where I'm at, the majority of the drivers are either illegal Mexicans or Arabs. And they are on the roads killing innocent people almost daily. Very, very few drivers like myself are left. When the driving jobs all turned to crap, they got into a new occupation.

First off, I'm 38 years old and have been married only once and to the same woman for nearly 15 years now.
Second, you totally missed my point about staying in business. The point was if you can't compensate your employees fairly and make a profit, then you should do something else. That's the "right" thing to do, a very foreign concept to most people these days. If I could have a business with trucks and make a profit and pay my employees fairly, I would be doing it. But unfortunately, the industry has gone to total hell.

I don't employ anyone illegal, that's a lawsuit and insurance cancellation waiting to happen, but your 100 percent correct there are tons of companies around here that do it and they stay in business, how I am not sure.
