Yeah, as an O/O, I find it hard to believe that some are so intimidated by ANYONE that they could even be forced to drive while tired. If I need to stop and rest, I do. No one tells me when I have to drive. Must not have been a problem thus far, as I have been at this game since 1982 and I am making a decent net profit owning a truck. No, of course I am not Donald Trump, but I am doing well. No one, at least since Viet Nam, has been able to intimidate me into doing anything. Some of these O/O that are complaining about being "forced" to drive need to grow a pair and man up.

Yeah, the cost factor is a legitimate argument, but even then, there are already units that meet the new ELD requirements that are relatively low cost and do not require a monthly contract or fee. No different that buying a GPS mapping unit at a truck stop.

As for the traffic stuff, I have found I can avoid a LOT of unexpected traffic shutdowns and other goofiness by simply using something like the Google maps on my iPhone or state specific road condition apps. I can get a heads up long before I get into a situation and make an adjustment to my route to bypass the nonsense or stop somewhere else. There are solutions for problems if folks will take the time to look.

If I drive to a customer and they cannot load or unload for 10 hrs, that is a 10 hr break for me. I am not on duty at that point. When they get done, I have a break in and a fresh 11/14 to do my thing. Yes, it is legal. There is no requirement that all time at a customer be recorded as on duty. Another trucker myth, even under the new ELD mandate.

Yea ok elogs would force me to drive in Chicago rush hour traffic instead of napping in Wisconsin then driving through after rush hour.I'm I suppose to use the 8/2 split that you obviously didn't know the rule on?

And you are forced to do what? By an e-log? You have got to be kidding me. You are forced to do something by a box? No box can force you to do anything. It cannot even force you to stop the truck! It may show you in violation, but it can't stop you from driving. I had several psychology courses in college, but your condition requires serious counseling, and maybe even testosterone replacement therapy. You have 3 hrs to play with in a 14 to get in your 11 hrs. You can use the 2/8 or 8/2 split, that you think I know nothing about. There are ways of dealing with situations the crop up. I am not the brightest bulb in the room, but I am pretty sure I have a solid grip on the regulations after all these years. But in the final analysis, it is you that decides when you drive. You are the one behind the wheel. You analyze the situation, adjust what you need to in order to make things work, and come up with a solution. You are not forced to drive, be it by an employer or the government. You decide that for yourself. Simple rule that escapes simple minds.

And what about that unexpected road closure or accident that happens outside of the rush hour periods? That is why I also use google maps and state specific apps on the phone to keep track of road and traffic conditions and have the information I need to avoid situations that would screw me up.

Where did I say you get a fresh 14 out of a 8/2 split? Please, we are all on the edge of our seats for you to show the post. I did state, that if a customer was going to take 10 hrs to load/unload, that I would show it all as a break and have a fresh 11/14.

You are just being contentious to the point of being ridiculous. You can't even keep what I am saying straight. But I have to admit, it is amusing!

First of all, it is not about safety, we all know that, stop lying everyone. Somebody will make billions of dollars, forcing elogs in our trucks. Idiots will end up in a ditch or crash no matter how many computers are monitoring their #####. You think the walmart driver, responsible for Tracy Morgan crash is the only out there?
Second thing is i dont want to pay for this crap. I am using keeptruckin app on my tablet and i have printer in case of inspection. So, no paper waste and no money spending.
I driver all over us and sometimes i adjust my logs due to conditions. I dont rush, i am always rested and fresh, wont happen with ELD.
And the last thing: try to pick up at 7 different places in CA on elogs- it would take a week. Dont tell me about time management, i dont know when the produce is ready. Reefer guys will understand. ELD doesnt work in realistic world. They just dont.
Absolutely moronic law that will enrich some companies and politicians and will make life harder for a simple trucker.

P.S yes it will affect my earnings.

Still trying to figure out how Central, Prime, Swift, JBS, and other refer outfits make is seem to work. I don't do refers, just like I don't do livestock or people, so just curious. I know how to make it all work for the van side of things, even with multiple pickups or drops. If refer guys have this figured out, time to share and not hold out.

Those mega companies have their terminals/warehouses every 50 miles per say. Megas run only teams for produce and have everything done for them. And they say to level the playground which is direct sign for big money involved. This rule does not fit all, sir.
