I have noticed when swift calculates your paid miles, they use the shortest possible route. I am curious how you guys deal with this issue.

    Here is an example:
    Salt Lake City to Minneapolis.
    Swift route is 1220 miles. 90 to 16 to 79 to 18 to 25 to 80

The route I took is 1310 miles. 35 to 80

The fuel stop that was setup by swift is also on the 35 to 80 route.

So they basically routed me the longer better way, but they calculate pay based on the shorter way that doesn't have the fuel stop they added.

How do you all deal with this? Do you go the short way? Do you go the longer way and just eat the extra the extra miles? Do you request a new fuel stop?

P.s. This definitely seems like a situation where the driver is getting screwed over, but I would rather learn how to deal with the issue than complain about it.

Call and have them fix it so you get paid closer to the actual miles. Point out to them exactly what you showed here. Worst they can do is say no.

Some companies pay short miles. Others pay practical. Others pay actual.
New question for you to ask recruiters.

Make sure you have the documentation to back up your complaint. Get the name of the person you are talking to i.e. settlement sheets and fuel stops.

At least you re still less than 10% out of route. I m still trying to figure out why Swift would route you on back roads in the middle of winter when you have all interstate from SLC to Minneapolis?

Because they're scared to let somebody drive on a 2 lane road. I'd rather cut across any day than go around, summer or winter. There's nothing to be afraid of up there

I have never worked for a company that dictated which route I had to take or specifically which fuel stops to refuel at or how much fuel to buy at each stop. Sure, they might have provided a generic book with all of their authorized fueling locations, but I was still the captain of the ship and was responsible for routing and determining which of those authorized locations to fuel at along the way. It's been over a decade since I was paid by the mile, but I was only averaging 4% "unpaid" miles...which is typically pretty good. At the time, I had a big paper map of the US, and I would look at where I was and where I was going, and picked the most direct route. Cross-referenced that against my Motor Carrier Atlas to ensure that it would be a legal truck route, then I'd look to see where the fuel stops would be along the way....and then I'd roll out. I'd highlight that route, too, and I'd try not to repeat any route unless it was impractical to go any other way. Saw a LOT of the country that way, spending most of my time on 2 lanes and the old US highway system rather than the interstates. The map filled up pretty quick, too. Sure was an enjoyable time behind the wheel...trucking like it ought to be. Used to love pulling off for the night in a gravel pull-off at some jurisdictional boundary in the middle of nowhere, fire up the camp stove, and have a good meal watching the sun go down before heading off to the bunk for the night...then a few hours later be making breakfast watching the sun come up. You know you picked a great spot when you don't see another vehicle drive by while you're doing all of that.

If you're going to work someplace where your every move is monitored and dictated to you, you may as well be at a desk in a cubical in the middle of some office complex with a supervisor breathing down your neck.

You get to see all the newly constructed FEMA camps taking those shortcuts also. Something most people don't get to see

HEre is how I would solve all your swift problems....
Pull over at the nearest spot. Get all you stuff out the truck.
Find the closet mexican food place or indian food (which ever will work) and ask them to make you a plate of there native land with out it being Americanized. Something that their own people order when they come on and its not even on the menu for white folks. Then go to the nearest starbucks and get yourself and big chocolaty coffee and get that energy level up and go for a nice walk in the truck stop. A good long walk to get the bowls moving properly.

Then, and here is you last step and the most important on, go in the truck and sit in the drivers seat and call swift and explain to them how you feel about this and how you feel your entitled to a fair wage for your work.

When they laugh at you at call you an idiot that will cause you to sht yourself in anger. But fear not! You are in their truck and your possessions are removed.
    So....You listening?
I hope I didn't lose you.....Cause this s were you have to focus!

Open the curtains in the sleeper....pull your pants down.....and bend over and touch your toes....
NOW..........YELL FUG YOU SWIFT AND THAT HO OF A MOTHER THAT GAVE YOU BIRTH!

Do it All in one breath!

Once you are done painting their truck, proceed to wipe your ars on their seats and feel free to touch the eobr with your dirty hands...and send them a message on the eobr and do it with the same hand you just wiped with and didn't use toilet paper....

I promise all your swift problems will be a thing of the paste!

Advice is free from me. All I ask is that you pass it along to another good soul one day. Karma and all that good stuff...you know....

    Take care.
