my tips are 13' 7" and have never EVER had anyone check them....
height sensors will never SEE your antennas they are to thin

So how many different shafts did you try in your experimentation?
I took an antenna with a flat match and a 10 inch shaft and added three feet to the shaft and my match did not change. Here's a picture of it

Used two different predator 10k,one is a single coil and one is a duel..I tried a 6",9" and a 40" shaft with a another 6" on the ant itself..
Dont know why but everything seems to be a pis#ing contest here..
Anyways,i made my comment on what i have learned with trial and error..Im done,no more pee..

The shaft is part of the antenna system. And it will change the match if made shorter.

I'm not educated enough to argue the particulars, but in searching for the right antenna for the Cascadia, I went through the Wilson 2000 phase with 6, 10, 18, and 40 inch shafts and saw a difference in SWR at every change. I don't remember how much now though....enough that I kept searching.

    Big_m and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

Changes made below coil have minimal effect above coil.
Changes made above coil have drastic effect below coil.

Hypothetically you could wind a 102" steel whip into a coil and still be resonant but if you tried it you would find it to be drastically too short.

all bets are off when aluminum parts loosely screwed together making poor electrical contact or the antenna is parallel with a metal surface with the coil close to a metal door when testing with short shaft first. As the coil moves from door, reflect will lessen. But if testing on a flat horizontal surface, he would have noticed minimal changes with different shaft lengths.

Hypothetically true but not as drastically as one might think, and not for the reasons one might think.
