It's rare for the hook to dig into the sidewall but with enough miles driven the hooks rub the sidewall which makes it sketch. A lot of people put them upside down. Heck I probably would still be doing it if I didn't get a flatchopper103in and joseph1135 Thank this.

Seen it too. Had to help a lady with c.r get hers out. What a nightmare that was. Her suggestions was drive until it falls out by its self hahahahstriker and joseph1135 Thank this.

Where is the rest of the chain? Those are for pickups....

We only carry 3 railers for our drives. We have 2 sets and one set of single pickup chains like yours for the trailer...LOL I normally only have to chain up the rear drive axle but then that axle does not have a fender and I have full lockers that are engaged in this kind of road conditions. I put mine on for the first time this year also and it only took about 20 minutes to chain up one axle with 3 railers.
The other day I had to chain up 2 times just to get out from under the RGN. Roads were fine but where I had to pickup and drop of the excavator was compacted snow and ice.Dustyroads38 Thanks this. -
Hah. 1 1/2 years driving OTR, and another 2 years driving northeast. I carry in the winter, but never had to chain up. I feel for you!.
-
I have no confirmation but the word was that Colorado was thinking about closing the road due to the disregard drivers were showing for the chain requirement. A lot of drivers kept rolling.
-
If most of the road was anything like your photo, I would have kept rolling too. That's not even bad enough to warrant chains.
Straight Stacks, Ruthless and magoo68 Thank this. -
It was far worse than that. The whole road was snow packed. That's just where it started to improve. Took over an hour to get to Cortez from Dove Creek.
