HTQ thank you. Heading to Oak Creek, Wi. Weather seems OK so far.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Might be able to hang out with wife Saturday.

To all the new otr drivers I'll be back on layer when I have more time to answer your questions

I am so glad that you made it home, scott! Enjoy that sweet little girl....they grow up far too fast!

jaso, it's good that you are on your way! Keep ahead of it as much as you can. They are saying now that there is a possibility of this storm system shifting more to the east. They have given it a name ....Winter Storm Goliath....if that tells you anything.

You had me worried, dano, it sounded as if you were saying that TransAm was cheating you out of miles that you had run.:biggrin_2554: I never knew that to be a problem with them.....ever. There were a couple of dispatch screw-ups over the years that had to be straightened up but we always got paid for the miles the King ran.
What you were really saying, is that you got put in the penalty box for refusing swaps. That is something that I can see happening. When TransAm talks you into leasing one of their big selling points is that you can turn down loads and turn down swaps......you can....but you will pay the price for doing that. When you think about it, it makes absolutely no sense to ever allow a driver in your equipment, lease or company, to turn down a load that you have contracted to take. I never understood TransAm allowing that or making it such a big selling point on the leases.......other than they do not care if you bring home a paycheck so long as you are making the payments on the truck.

Swaps are one way that TransAm is able to guarantee on time delivery .....it is a necessary evil when you have a carrier that takes on student drivers. They are hard on the drivers. They mess with your planning, mess with your sleep and can mess with your paycheck if you have a bad DM.....if you have a good DM they will make sure that you are still averaging good miles. There are ways to decrease your chances of being in a position to do swaps......and ways to increase the chance if you have a load that you want to get rid of. If you take advantage of this thread and all of the knowledge and experience that has been shared, it will tell you what to do.

Dh46, I don't know if TransAm would have you go out with a trainer or not......since you are an experienced driver but with no OTR experience, I am not sure how they would handle that. If they consider you experienced even without the OTR then you will have to lease. With no OTR experience that would make it even harder on you.

There are a few other companies that might be a better fit for you. There is one in Oklahoma that I think you might want to check into......I just have to remember the name and find the info on it. I researched it awhile back for another driver. I'm sure we can help you find some place to call home.:)

Dh46, have you looked at these folks? They are out of Ardmore. I have talked with a couple of people over the years about them and they seem to have a good reputation. I know that the last time I looked at them, (a couple of years ago), their drivers seemed pretty happy. That being said....it has been a couple of years so do some research on them and make sure that everything is still good.

Dh46 I would recommend one of the other companies with your experience. Trans Am is either a starter company or second chance company. While most big companies have things that aren't right Trans Am fully takes advantage of most of their drivers and could care less about them cause they know they have a full crop of new or second chance drivers coming in the following week.
