To dodge a pan handler

The ones I hated most were the salesmen ya know guys with jewelry, cologne, counterfeit smokes, etc...

Those sons of #####es were the most persistent and just don't give up until ya almost gotta threaten them.

 

That's a lot different than giving a hardcore alchy enough for a pint of booze.

 

that I will not do.There's a difference between someone asking for money and a bum begging for money.I wont give bums even one red cent to help support their habits.a bum that reaks of cheap stale booze is enough to knock you out.

 

I had one come up to my truck and started washing my passenger side window. Then he went around and did the same to the driver side. Then he stared at me through the window. He motioned for me to roll it down. I did. I told him thank you and rolled it back up. He stood there with a confused look on his face. He lightly tapped on the door and motioned for me to roll the window down again. I did. This time he said " driver I cleaned your windows, now how bout a tip?" I told the window washer, " let me think about it for a second". The expression on his face went from firm, yet happy to bewildered when I replied, " OK, my tip is, never play leapfrog with a unicorn!" With a crooked smile, he slowly stepped off my running board onto the ground, tipped his ball cap and headed to the the next truck only feet away. My guess is he went back to asking for money, not tips. (True story)

 

Well did he do a good job and get the mirrors too?

In that case I might of gave him a couple bucks but if they were streaked to piss well forget it.

 

He never touched the mirrors. Funny thing, I just rolled out of the streakin beacon. He actually made the windows worse. Not a bad guy. Just don't start mowing your neighbors lawn expecting to get paid without asking him first. Maybe he doesn't want his lawn mowed.lol

 

Then give what youre comfortable as often as you are comfortable giving. Im not suggesting people unload their checking accounts on homeless people. My rant was really only about people who never give either food or money to beggars because "#### them. get a job and work like i have to" type of mentality. People like that have no empathy whatsoever and arent capable of thinking in a way other than black/white.

 

Interesting thread. Society has me jaded enough that I won't give money to any random beggars, simply because I'm wary of being scammed. However, I always donate items to the Food Bank at Christmas because I can't imagine children not having a good meal during the holidays. But then I always wonder if those families are ripping off the Food Bank somehow....it's a shame that I think that because no doubt there are people in need in this country.

 

Another thing that I try to do is help the working people as much as possible. I ALWAYS tip the wait staff generously, the level of generosity depends on service and quality, but it's always at least 20%. I stopped at a hot dog shop for lunch the other day and had an awesome waitress that wished me a Merry Christmas. She never said anything regarding her situation, but I judged (I hate that word) her as a single, HARD WORKING Mom. My bill was 8 bucks, I put a $20 bill on the table and walked out to my truck. As I was driving away she came out and motioned me to stop. I rolled down the window and she gave me the most sincere "thank you" that I think I've ever heard. I felt good driving away at least thinking I made a difference.

 

I give regularly. I've paid entire families grocery bills, electric bills, heat bills. Filled cars up with fuel. Taken women out of abusive homes at 3 in the morning to a women's shelter. To this day my wife and I help many people/families in need. She's a retired pastor and we've been blessed to help many in need. Thank God almighty we are able to. Been doing it for over a decade. If someone is in need, brought to our attention, we help. I've gone without so others didn't have too. God knows the goodness In my heart. What I'm not going to do, is take direction from anyone other than God himself,on the direction of my charitable contributions.
