Federal Air Marshals carry firearms on planes. Some countries allow pilots to carry guns in the ####pit. These are for the express purpose of shooting someone, if necessary, on a plane, possibly at high altitude. The risk has been analyzed, assessed, and found to be inadequate to say that guns shouldn't be on airplanes.
As in any situation with a large crowd densely packed in a small space, care must be exercised, but the fact is that if you are dealing with a high jacking situation, collateral damage just isn't that big a deal compared to the alternative. The risk of shooting holes in the side of the plane is a non issue, as determined by those who actually know what they are talking about.
Today I saw a driver wearing a pistol....

Without going into great detail about when, why etc. basically if a plane is operating above 35,000 ft one pilot will have an oxygen mask on or have a quick-donning mask that can be put on one handed in under 5 seconds, above 41,000 ft - both pilots.
My last corporate flying position we were required to have one under a mask above FL350 and both under a mask above FL410 during daylight hours and FL310 and FL370 during nighttime operations regardless of whether the aircraft was equipped with quick-donning masks or not.
As for military bombers, they generally fly at the same or HIGHER altitudes than commercial aircraft. Private jets will almost always operate at altitudes above both of these.
As for rapid depressurization, a single bullet hole (or even a few) will not cause the cabin to depressurize, in fact the leakage of most every pressurized aircraft (door seals, windows, seams etc.) is far greater than a dozen .45 caliber holes. A few holes will only cause the bleed air valve (pressure regulator) to adjust in order to maintain the set altitude of the cabin. And that's where the cabin gets it's pressure from on turbojet aircraft, the giant air pump pushing the plane forward also supplies the pressurized air for the cabin (bleed air).HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, Mudguppy, 123.Red Beard and 1 other person Thank this. -

It's my understanding. From friends of mine who are LEO. After they retire or leave the job. They can carry anywhere. But the have to get a special carry permit. And prove they were LEO. -
This is an assumption on your part. For example in PA you are not allowed to simply place your firearm in a locked box and drive around with it. In PA you are only allowed to carry your firearm to and from the range, a gun smith or your place of business without a LTCF. You are not allowed to deviate from the direct path to said places, i.e, stop somewhere along the way. Doing anything else you risk being arrested.
Federal law is what allows you to carry a firearm locked in a box separated from the ammunition through any state. If you decide to stop then you are no longer protected and fall under the laws of the state you are in.
If you fell brave you can test the waters in NJ. -
No special carry permit, they will receive a retired officer ID, but must qualify every year with the firearm they choose to carry, they must have a minimum of 10 years and have left the department in good standings

Ok, here is the answer as long as you have the CCP from your home state, you can indeed carry the weapon on your commercial vehicle. Each state is different in their reciprocity, so when transporting the weapon, and this is just a little common sense associated with responsibility, we require our operators to make sure the weapon is unloaded and the magazine is separate from the gun. (Keeps down the chance of accidental discharge of the weapon). When our operators go into a federal installation they tell the guard, and turn in the weapon and ammo to the guard, and retrieve it when they leave. No problems because they are all legal carriers in the first place. That being said and done there are some customers (to include the government) that need this type of service from us. We have never had any problems with LEO, DOT, or anybody else for that matter. So let's see what the cops have to say about this, and pay attention to the trucker that entered into their arena.

This has been said and said again in this thread, but in some states doing as you say will put you in jail. For example, here in California, if you do not have a California permit, your gun must be unloaded and in a locked container. Simply unloaded and separated from magazine is not good enough.powerhousescott Thanks this.
