I live less than 100 miles from the Portland terminal but they said I wouldn't be able to park truck near home.Last edited: Dec 27, 2015

That would be more of a decision fron your dbl up to a point. Build a good relationship with him/her and allowances can be made at their discretion.
Around my area , it's 50-75 miles away from a SNI location. -

To OP,
I have many years OTR experience, multiple companies and over 2million miles accident free.
This is my 4th week with Schneider. I have to say that you will hear a lot of BS from everyone and anyone about Schneider but I'm here to tell you that they have far exceeded any expectations I had (or didn't have)
My DBL or as they will always be known to me as "dispatcher" is great. Have had no issues with the company and run an average of 500 miles a day in a 60mph truck. Keep your cruise set. (Unless you want to use wipers then it doesn't work. Design flaw in safteys thought process.)
Don't take the power or choice from a driver, educate the inexperienced on when and why you don't use cruise control. Don't just cut off the ability as I can tell you (yes the Schneider employees reading this who's job it is to report posts, pictures and company violators) that the design flaw actually makes it less safe as there are times I would have used my wipers but haven't because I would much rather use my cruise to save on fuel, bonus and to not have to concentrate on maintaining 60mph by foot pedal to avoid over speed. (I can go into a much more in-depth discussion if you'd like at a later time. Just route me to Charlotte. Education is key, not limitations.)
Life is good here considering "life as a truck driver".
As far as your questions.
I eat healthy, don't have a fridge or cooler. I eat and prepare tuna from a pouch, eat nuts and fruit and drink mostly mineral water. Lost 10lbs my first week out and quit smoking. (Day 8 no cigarettes)
A healthy lifestyle is up to you and is a mental challenge. There are ways even with out luxuries like fridge or cooler.
I run (jog) at every truck stop, shipper, receiver. Not like an athlete but I park as far away as possible and jog to and from the store or office depending. It may not be a marathon but it is enough to get your heart rate up.
IC. Put an honest 2 years in with the company and learn everything you can about trucking. People will tell you not to lease and save for a used truck. When you lease you are simply investing in that truck as you drive it. There is no difference between leasing and saving. The money is all going to a truck. Either you are driving it or your are looking at pictures of the one you want to buy by saving. Personally, I'd rather be driving what I want. Becoming an IC is a personal choice. Only you can decide if it's right for you but don't let anyone talk you out of doing what you want to do.

Keep to the right lane.
PXI Incorporated Thanks this. -
Also, forgot your boredom question.....
If you run hard as I do, you will have resets or if your really crafty you can run off your previous 8th day gains.
To do this you need to run hard during first 3-4 days and pace at day 5,6,7 or you will end up having to sit for at least 1 (24hr) period which will count as a day off towards your bonus.
Example: I ran out of 70 but left 2hrs for today so that I could show movement for today and not sit for 24hrs. I gain 8.5hrs in 8 more minutes then I'll run and shut down for tomorrow.
I have no TV, but I do play guitar and occupy my time with sleep, and showers and other necessities of road life.
Get out of your truck, help spot others backing, be a professional truck driver instead of these unprofessional (all about themselves, don't care about helping or giving assistance to someone in need but will be the first to criticize after watching a driver back into something) type drivers.
We are all out here doing the same thing. We all have the same stresses and issues that all truck drivers face. It doesn't matter the name on your truck. It matters that we start bringing back what it is to be a professional truck driver.
Pride, respect, honor.
Get me a trainee!!!!! I'm ready to lead!!!! HAHAHA!!!TheBigDogg, Da Beast, TBonze and 1 other person Thank this.
