So I guess Tommy Oakley has lost his ever lovin mind. He can't possibly have a clue as to how his company is being run. First off, the recruiters are full of bull. Lies, lies and more lies. They will tell you anything and everything to get you to sign up. I know this is common practice, but these lies are off the hook. I mean, LIES.

Next, dispatchers who don't do their jobs. They expect you to do THEIR job because they can't be bothered following through. Wrong load times, wrong directions, incomplete info, last minute changes that screw up your entire schedule because somebody "forgot" to mention the change. They love to lie and tell you what they think you want to hear. Then they claim that it's YOU who is lying. Nasty, rude, inflexible. Oh, and family time? Forget it. You'll be out for months at a time. You're a machine who's sole purpose is to make Oakley as much money as possible, until you drop. And your compensation? It's laughable. Doesn't matter how hard you run, your weekly pay will be a fraction of what other tanker companies pay, and they will battle you for every penny. More work for less pay? No thanks. If I'm going to work 12 and 14 hour days, I'm going to need to get paid for it. Try getting detention pay or layover. It's like pulling teeth.

Training was pretty good, and the hotel was nice. This is how they hook you in. Seemed like a great deal until you're dispatched out. The shop is great, the equipment is top-notch, but the attitude in general is of fear. Everyone is terrified of losing his job. That makes for a stressful and unhappy workplace. Old Tommy needs to get a grip on Daddy's company, because it's sliding down the tubes real fast. Avoid this place until something changes. Turnover is ridiculously high. Oh, and they recently stopped paying for most tolls. That means if you don't want tolls coming out of your pocket, find another way around. You won't get paid for those extra miles, so you can't win.

Wow. Great equipment but from what I'm reading, Tom is pushing the company to bankruptcy.
Looks like the industry as a whole is pushing that way too.
I wonder how anything is going to get delivered when the new requirements for HazMat endorsements push drivers to say "S-C-R-E-W T-H-I-S" like I did. I'm tired of this BS expenses in order to maintain my status and WHY do they keep loosing my proof of citizenship?!... what is it, poor record keeping?

New fingerprinting with each renewal is my guess. It's made things more difficult and expensive. Having a valid TWIC card doesn't make any difference, either. It's all about the $$$.

I've renewed my HM twice and got finger printed each time since the HM law yrs ago.I thought maybe there were more stiffer requirements.I agree, its all about money.87.50 is ridiculous .probably cost them less then $5.00 to do the background check.

I agree that anyone looking to go to work at Oakley would be better off to keep looking. Upper management has a bad attitude towards truck drivers (especially behind closed doors when they think that you can't hear them from the next room). I spoke with the VP and it didn't take long to get the vibe that he could care less about the driver or their family. He sides with the company's bean counters on shorting the driver. Shortly after I went to work for them they put a cap on layover pay and break down pay of $300. Then in the same letter (that is posted here on this website) they took away half of the home time earned while being otr. It was two days off work for every week out, and now it's one day. I spoke with a new hire a month ago, and she said that they are still advertising the old benefits to lure drivers to orientation. As far as the toll roads, they have an approved list and if the toll road you want to take isn't on it, then you have to pay for it. They site a bologna excuse that drivers were abusing toll roads by taking them needlessly. I never take a toll road unless it is shorter and faster to my destination. They will not pay you the extra miles to not take the toll roads so it's a catch 22.
Every policy change that Oakley comes up with is followed by false excuses that drivers in some way have abused the system. The letter that they sent out about the home time earned, layover, and break down pay is insulting to anyone with an ounce of intelligence. They put so much ridiculous spin on that letter that it would make a politician proud.
Their otr positions aren't really otr. The only local drivers they have are on dedicated accounts and aren't used for any other local customers loads. Which by they way, the local drivers are quitting because of massive pay cuts. Oakley hires otr drivers and then gives them local and regional work hoping that they won't complain about low miles. If you do complain it will get you nowhere except worse off. The DM's and coordinators are vindictive to say the least. I give it another six months before the only drivers that they can get through their orientation will be drivers with less than 2 years experience. Then Oakley will see their equipment get torn up and their insurance rates sky rocket because of it.

I wouldn't recommend Oakley to my worst enemy.
