Working 60 hours to only bring home 900 is highway robbery. Not trying to cause a beef with you, but your employer is ripping you off big time. If you said 60 and 1200, I'd say not bad as long as you are getting decent benefits
Canned Spam and White_Knuckle_Newbie Thank this. -
Seems like he is around the 22-24 dollar an hour mark and that's guessing depending on what he puts into 401k and how much his benefits are. How is that highway robbery?

that's on grossing 14-1500 a week

I have to agree you can take any % fuel hauling and shove it. The number one issue isn't even the pay (to a point) its the mindset of the driver. I've done both and made zero mistakes running by the hour. This nonsense about drivers goofing off is a thing of the past with computers in the trucks.

I will agree on that to a certain point. You'll find bad drivers anywhere and I blame the company and not the driver. That's why you'll see a bad driver will eventually end up with the worse company around. But we've had drivers that have made the 30 year mark safe driving mark and they are drivers that the others look up to. How could you not. Most drivers do not understand how the local driving is stack against you. I have been driven both places. Both jobs are tougher than most but the local job is much harder, by far. Especially when for your safety award the company counts every aspect of the job. That includes contaminations, spills, huge mistakes with your paperwork if it cost the company a dime. any little dent ( the black poles at the pumps are a killer), calling in sick, and a few others.
The mindset of the drivers has been straight forward for many years. Even before the vehicle recording devices came in. The bosses could tell if you were screwing off just by the information the rack had. You take 3 hours in between loads when it should have been only 2 then you will start being watched. Have you ever noticed that these drivers you speak about may get lucky when they find a decent job but they always end up at the worse company? But the majority gasoline haulers are a better cut of driver IF they've been there for any length of time. And the % of load is the lowest pay scale you'll see and I believe in the future you'll see the majors bring their own fleet back with their old pay scale.
