If there was an amplifier involved in the equation it could very easily have come from david bupp. But all of his barefoot radios sound great.

Our driver just has a Connex 4300 i think it is,
.It splatters all over and is way over modulated....
I will tell him about Dave...maybe he can get it straightened out.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I really appreciate your input. Had I knew what it all meant a month ago it would have saved me some coin. So, I just bought another radio, a galaxy 959, which I will not let anyone in. I still have an old school dx44v, don't know the history of this box, but it squeals like a pig when TalkBack is up modestly and my astatic is next to the overhead external speaker. My 979 never did that. I've been to 4 cb shops, all hacks. I didn't let Walcott do anything because didn't care for their customer service. Bob, from Bobs cb shop want around to work on my box.
I have a 5/8 wave Wilson top loaded antenna, that I'm going to pair with my barefoot 959 and call it a day. I'll keep the dx44v under the bunk.
I went with the 5/8 from something you posted on another thread. I still have 3 other antennas in the truck. Bought through my learning process. A Wilson 5000, Browning br78, and a hustler scb. I like them all but the hustler, seemed to short to get out over the truck.
Hope I didn't go too far OT. Just wanted to give props to RB! -

I bought a brand new Cobra 29 for a friend of mine who got screwed over by one of the guys on the whitelist who lives in Julieta Idaho (no names mentioned) and I felt bad for recommending the guy so I bought my buddy a brand new Cobra 29 and with a vise grip mount and a four foot Francis antenna with a road king microphone I could hear him 15 miles out with a mountain in between us on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania and two days later he decided to let Bob tweak his Cobra 29 and when he came back into Pittston Pennsylvania I was sitting at the pilot truck stop and I could barely hear my friend at the Turnpike exit 2 miles away and I could barely understand him because he was so over modulated and muffled sounding.
The guy had a great sounding radio and he spent a bunch of money to pay someone to screw it up. I told him to unplug the Cobra that Bob's screwed up and to plug in his Connex 3300 that mark Sherman tuned for him and when he switched over to the other radio he was loud and clear and pegging my needle and a bunch of guys were offering to buy the radio from him. That taught him a valuable lesson.

15 miles barefoot cobra 29 and a 4ft Francis?!? Wtf?!?rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Me hearing him 15 miles away and you hearing him 15 miles away is two different things. My radio was tuned by Mark Sherman so I got the killer recieve but a stock radio would not have heard him at that distance because of too much noise in the receiver.

I figured as much. I'm always hearing only one party until the other one catches up. I'm just trying to get a good legal setup. Don't want any pills. I think I have that now, just not with big ears. I think guys get your with more power, but how do you get those big ears?

You need a good tech for thatdarthanubis Thanks this.

Watch "Retard" on YouTube
The guy in this video was only 5 miles away and he was having a hard time hearing me but other people have an easy time hearing me 75 miles away from this location.
