All oversize loads I've pulled the customer pays for them. Except 2 times in the Tidewater area in Virginia. I didn't know VA required an escort for only 10wide in Norfolk.

Ive had one police escort in KY and they were free because they officer was a friend of the shippers……...

Well when you figure in the rate, you should and better figure in the costs of escorts if needed. So in the long run yes the customer pays. But you or your company will be the one paying it out of your pocket, Unless you broker a ld. and it states they pay escorts and pilots if needed.
Now for police escorts, Yep you pay them. Some states and cities they are not cheap. Md. for state police to run you across I68 are like 2500.00 plus if you need bridge people there is another charge

Remember the guy that got the load for $6.78/mile for a 14'6 load? Never heard back from him.

I kinda get a kick out of the guy who is dispatching me here at the new company. He calls me and says hey. There is this ld. I got emailed about. Gives me the dims and then says it's paying this amount.. I say slow so down. Look at the money end and then run the costs.. Oh. crap never mind. No call them back or email them and bump it to this amount..
He only has like 20 trks. to dispatch and there are only 3 of us as contractors.
He forgets about the cut to them and then the trk. pay.
    But he is getting better..
Still new to all of us

You'd better book the load and figure in permits, fuel, escorts($3/mile minimum...more if you need a pole car) police escorts are required after a certain size and you pay that up front.

Bid it wrong, and you're busted. Do not do any favors, and do not try to save money by putting your load dims as smaller than it is. You should be expecting a LevelOne, especially if a police escort is required.

  9. Nothing is ever free in OS/OD/OW

    OS - over sized
    OD - over dimension
    OW - over width

Cops are never free, even fire departments will charge home owners for false alarms. The police are not a charity.

Google or YouTube, see the oversized loads in motion. It's all money, someone always pays.

@TripleSix , @passingthru69 know this very well. Their advice is solid on point.

And never hire a cut rate PCS. You definitely get what you pay for in that arena.

Oh, I forgot about the fire dept.. Had to call them out twice to wash soap off the road when we had to soap the road to slide the trl. around the corners that could not be made in a normal turn..
