I guess its all true. Sad though.

Yes. Many. Which is really sad. A lot of these guys have no idea what they are doing and "training" others. And nobody knows how to truck and they leave the industry.

Yea I hate that. I was training a driver with 15 years driving but had a gap of driving for 4. He was 47 and I was 26. I didn't like it at all. Hell I asked him if he wanted to drive or just sit there.

Not all training is driving related, right ? So a driver with 4 months experience could certainly "explain" to a new hire co. procedures, how to scale, how to deal with shippers, how to read a qual-comm, how to fuel at the T/A, how to send in paperwork, how to enter a scale house, etc etc etc. I mean, do you think a new hire running with a trainer for a week or two then going solo really qualifies him to be a ceritified bonified truck driving fool ?

I was trained by someone with 3 months experience. I overcompensated for that by talking to other drivers and asking a million questions.

I had a trainer who had 13 years exp all OTR 48 states. wouldn't explain anything, acted annoyed if I asked a question and then reluctantly gave me the most simple answer possible. slept most of the time I drove if not would come up to smoke a cig and play on his phone then right back to the bed. openly admitted hes only training cause he makes more money that way cause he gets paid all the miles that I drive, the list goes on.
So I guess my point is even drivers that have been driving for a long time can still not know how to be a trainer.finbyrd, passingthru69, gentleroger and 3 others Thank this.
