I did that last winter from January to mid March-ish. I took a job as an automotive mechanic(I have previous experience) as I took a break from driving thinking it was the right move to do..Worked 40 hours, had scheduled breaks and lunches and guess what, back to driving I went!! Missed it and you're right, working 40 hours feels strange lol.
Is "full time", 40-hours a week, nothing more?

So how many hours a day are you away from home?, and are you home every day?. -
I work for a local towing company. Im one of several float drivers there. I work Mon-Fri and I'm on call every 6th weekend. Typically I am home every night but sometimes I'm gone from Monday mornings until Friday afternoons, although that's rare. Lately, I spend 1-2 nights a week in the truck and I would say my average shift is 10-12 hours when I am home daily, but I run hard when Im out on the highway, I try to max out the log book(16 hour days, may as well make some money lol)

Well in the winter we slow down a bit, but normal week is 5/14's with hopefully Saturday and Sunday off. With better pay than Alberta even in the boom!

Well it sounds like you guys enjoy driving because it gets you out somewhere where you can see the open road and you don't have to deal with a boss or people really lol, sounds not bad at all to me.

I think you may be drawing conclusions to satisfy your preconceived notions of trucking. If you think you can escape bad bosses by taking up a career in trucking you are sadly mistaken. Trucking is choc-a-bloc with bad, bad bosses and bosses who are just plain criminals. It's anarchy really, Trucking is a special law-free zone. In the cab of your truck you will have plenty of time to ruminate and stew in your own lonely, lonely anger about your bad boss, without the camaraderie and support of your fellow victim-employees (whom you almost never see). To make matters worse, in trucking your bad boss is free to torment you 24 hours a day.

Ill add you still deal with people all the time. Aka the motoring public... It's not like you hit the road and your worries and troubles are gone...
Runawayscreaming Thanks this. -
and EVERYONE hates trucks....always goin too slow for them

So, to ask those who are registered here and drive for companies in Canada, do you get paid for working over 40 hours?. I read in this thread that you normally don't, but someone else said that you do get paid for extra work like fuelling and other random stuff.
I assume this goes by the "per km" basis of getting paid right?.
I hope my question makes sense. -
Where is 'here'?
Here in Canada I am paid by the mile. Loading, unloading and tarping pays extra but that's about it.
I did over hear a conversation over the CB regarding overtime after 40 hours (for local/hourly drivers)... If anyone get's it, it's not everyone that's for sure.
