When companies say that their drivers make $40,000 50,000 or even 65,000 are they usually referring to gross pay ( before taxes) or net pay (Take home). I also see that some companies say that "our drivers average $900 - $1000 a week. So was just wondering if someone could clear this up for me. Also what is the ball park figure for take home pay that some of you new drivers are seeing? Is it like $500-$900 a week or something of that nature?

Most all figures are gross numbers. This is because everyone's tax situation is different.
When I first started driving I was I made between $650-750 per week.
unloaderrabbiporkchop and Thull Thank this. -
That would be gross pay before taxes. Your personal tax rate would vary according to your marital status and how many dependants you have.
Average weekly would include their best and worst drivers. It doesn't take much effort to beat the average, as the average persons output is pretty mediocre.Thull Thanks this. -
Always Gross for the reasons above plus any company is going to put the highest possible number out there so it's not in their personal interest to list a lower amount.
All depends on the company you are looking at... Some have high CPM but low total miles... Some may offer lower CPM but have tons of miles to give you...
And I agree with the statement above, probably not too hard to beat the average if you are willing to run.Thull Thanks this. -
Think about it this way... You pay your taxes, not them, you pay your insurance not them etc...
In other words Gross Pay is what they pay you. That's what comes off their books. The taxes withheld, they re just doing that at the Govts behest, its still your money, but they are forwarding your tax assesment to the Govt. Your Insurance premium, same thing, they are providing a service by deducting and forwarding your premium.
This is all out of your money, not the Companies,
Always, no matter what field you go into, or what company you work for, they pay you a Gross Amount.Thull Thanks this. -

I'm grossing about $1200 for 4 loads in a week, I don't think you will get that running by the mile pulling a van. I'm paid by percentage of what the truck makes. I am also flatbed and have 8 axles.Thull Thanks this.
-
Also let me add that it's probably more like 4 loads in 6 days because I'm usually already loaded when I start Monday morning, because I backhuled to get home for the weekende.

Easy plus more! I can name 2 places MLS and Nall's, van only and MLS is home every day. Many more.

For a driver with no OTR experience? I doubt it...
