it seems I floated under a lucky star, the bid came down to a busy ,but not demanding p/d run or fill in ,line haul.....although the fill in had a good 10 week of just driving, the other weeks you were a glorified dock worker.....I took the p/d guaranteed work....I have some good workers near my area, that's what sealed the deal for me.

seems I spoke too soon, the contract says A bid run gets a scheduled start, albeit..within 2 hours of the start time given on the bid,,,,so tomorrow I have the bid start 9:30; and the rest of the week,'' on call''. If I had the money saved up I would never answer my phone. oh and the contract also says a awarded bid start gets a schedule thru out the week.........so how the hell is ''on call'' even close to the definition of a schedule?!

Maybe I'm just being a devils advocate, but shouldn't "on call" time justify a percentage of regular wages? That's what non-trucking companies do for employees on call because you have to give up your personal time to be ready to go to work on short notice. Just saying, unless they give a half days notice in advance it would really interfere with personal plans.

if the call doesn't come in the am, you don't work for the day....might get a call later ,but I never answer them calls....did it once , never again. See that's the problem I have, It's the companies way of skating past a layoff, but they could still use me and 2 other drivers for 4 hours and still get what little work done that there might be ....so they would rather call you for a start ,if need be, than a hard layoff or keep your start time and work shortened hours. Another thing they like to do is have other drivers take your run and then send you off on a crap day full of dismal deliveries. I dunno f I can take that kind of crap........I need a job, not this job.

I have been on the extra board since I started in March of '15. Mostly running p&d...starting the new year with higher senior driver's moving around it left me as extra board with a p.m. start time. I will fill in the long line runs when needed, but mostly I'll be on the dock until the early a.m. then running a couple hundred miles to one of our zones near the end of my shift. The job security will be good, but I'm bummed about the night shift. Just gotta pay my dues and work my way up the seniority list until I land something better. I know from talking to the drivers with many years of service that it won't be like this forever. They all tell me a couple years of crappy extra board and something will open up that's more to my liking.

at least that extra board is work, there are plenty of extra boards that are drive only...they sit home when it slows down, consider yourself lucky in that regard.

my operations manager is a complete imbecile, today he put a stop on my run that was s'posed to be on another run, and THAT run had a stop on his run that should of been mine....both tail loaded, but mine took me a hundred miles away from my regular first stop.......put me back and 1.5 hours on the run.........needless to say I was the last one back.....frigging idiot.

I do. We have one driver that is under me on seniority and he sees a lot of carrier courtesy days...I feel fortunate that at least I will have solid work for 2016. I am still very happy that I will be home everyday with weekends off, paid holidays and get to have dinner with my wife and kids every night. It's not all bad.
