One big difference from how manual cars operate is that you don't have to give it any fuel to get rolling. Most cars will stall if you just let out the clutch pedal without giving it any gas. A truck won't; it will get rolling just by letting out the clutch.

When I backed into a dock i gave it just a little gas so the trk didn't stall.i kept my foot on the clutch while backing.it really depends on the type of backing.the harder it is the more baby steps you need to take to get in the dock.the reverse selector has two gears, high and low, always use the low side.

He came on here to ask a question. Don't be a dick.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

How do you idle or coast?
Out of gear.
How do you stall?
In gear and not enough rpms.
No the truck doesn't have to be in gear at a red light. You just sit there and twiddle then put it in gear when it turns green. Why you wanna screw up your knee?
I've never even thought it possible to stall while going backwards....but I guess it could be possible if you have your foot on the brake and it slips off the clutch. -
Scary

So becausr i dont know how a transmission operates on a tractor trailer im a dangerous? Lol trolls are funny.

Its hard to explain what im trying to ask here so forget i asked. Im very mechanically inclined. I get the clutch on these trucks has basically 3 parts to it. About an inch of freeplay then the, clutch that you only have to press down partially then the, clutch brake where the, clutch is to the, floor. The,clutch brake is only used when you are completely stopped.
-
Actually, the only time you'll need the clutch brake is getting into gear while the truck is at a stop. If you come to a stop light and you're in gear, you only need to go so far as to disengage the clutch.
-
Yep.
When u are sitting there at the light you have to use it to put it in gear. -
how one uses the clutch depends on the person.some only use it to stop and they float the gears.then others double clutch when shifting which by the way will be how you learn in school because Fmcsa requires it I believe.
