Apprenticeship with Owner/Operator?

Most insurance companies won't take someone with less than 1 or 2 years experience.....

They are calling the shots these days.

 

Maybe with a company like MCT Transportation or Carolina Logistics. Doubt a single truck operation can help you.

 

That's kind of what I did

I rolled with a friend before I even had my class a and he taught me how to shift and how to drive the truck, and the basic rules of the road for big trucks

 

Scroll down to the "Seeking Jobs" and "Teams" threads and maybe find something.

Check with Tiger Transportation in Las Vegas.

 

If you are a female you will have absolutely no problem finding an O/O that will more than accommodate you with the "get to know each other" phase of trucking. If you are a dude, research "mega".

 

Sorry China, totally disagree here.

HOWEVER, there is a caveat or two. First off, I think a single truck O/O would be the IDEAL way to go, since who better to decide something like this than the hand who owns and drives the rig daily. In a bigger outfit, it would be tougher even talking to the head honcho, let alone get their insurance co. to agree.

That being said, I would suggest that one interested in going this route to meet/know the O/O beforehand, and maybe start out by helping around the shop (ie-lending a hand turning wrenches, cleaning/polishing the truck-especially the chrome!!!, etc) then inquiring once a solid relationship/friendship is established....

This way they not only know you, but you know them as well, and will have an idea whether you can temporarily live in a box for days/weeks with them. Whereas with any other outfit (ESPECIALLY a mega!) you won't get to choose your trainer.

Maybe you're right, but the insurance companies are cracking down and so are the litigation lawyers. I would think some one truck operations will no long take the risk.

Then again, could be a lot of those old road dogs would be just the ones to say "Aw, fudge 'em...." when it comes to the insurance companies.....LOL

 

It's a very good idea you can find a decent owner. If anyone cares about being profitable and maintenance should be the owner operator because he has all the risk
