Well, drivers lie as well.....I hate to break that news to you. But, I can unequivocally tell you, with first hand knowledge, that bulk is slow right now and there are bulk drivers moving to van till after the holidays. You can take that or leave it, but if you don't have first hand knowledge then all you have is someone else word.

Thanks for the pick me up drvrtech77. I'm going to talk to the office staff this afternoon to see about a transfer and maybe take a drive out to PA to see if the Dupont campus is any better. I can't imagine it being any worse than this. I have 2 kids at home and a mortgage. I can't spend 4 months standing around the yard listening to every type of conversation that doesn't have anything to do with trucking. I have no problem with the system helping out someone who is down on their luck and wants to give an honest try at something new but this is just ridiculous. I guess this I the world we live in though. Maybe I haven't been out enough to see it first hand on a grand scale.

lmcclure1220: I believe that you are right. I understand that the division might slow down some in the winter and I'm used to that with my old career but I don't think they would be spending the money and time on hiring tanker drivers if there was no work to be done. I do believe the people that say drivers switch to van in the winter. I'm just trying to find the line between slow and unavailable.

Thanks for the support drivers. I came here after being told by multiple companies that this was the school to go and it was the only school in NJ that Superior Carriers would hire from (before I found out that the terminal near my house was just a drop yard.) With the failure rate and little truck time I have seen in the 3 weeks I have been here, I am amazed by that. Like I said before if anyone has any info on Smith & Solomon's Dupont, PA location... I'm all ears. I already paid my money so I need to stay within the company.

Wow...what a ripoff. School I went to in Arkansas was 21 days straight, 10-12 hrs/day of classroom and course driving then road driving in the afternoons. Two students/one instructor to the truck.

I thought it was a little short, but they got you in and got you out. I'm betting I got as much seat time in 21 days as these places with their 6 week programs. During the course work, I don't recall ever NOT having a truck available to me.

It's a shame you have paid them already, you would be better off to drive to Arkansas and do 21 days... if they are approved by SNI...and I bet they are.

Make the best of it. Sometimes just letting the people in charge know that you are serious and need to get moving will open doors. They know who is playing the system and who wants to be a driver. Sometimes you just have to push the door a little....or kick it in.

AM post your experience elsewhere here. New drivers section. Not sure if we have a section on schools.help another prospective driver avoid them. Or at least know what they are potentially getting into.

Well my talk with the office pretty much went nowhere. Mickeyrat is right though. I will make a thread in the trucking schools section since I'm now off topic on this one and so other new guys can see it. Or I'll resurrection the the old one I found.

For now, im just going to keep making the truck time I do get count and fight my way through and make sure they know that I'm not there to mess around like Arky suggested. Ill do what i have to do until I can get my license and hit the highways hopefully before the year is out.

wassup man how's the school thing going? I been looking at your post and it sounds just like what I'm trying to do as a career. I got my license back in June and since I started school I been wanting to drive tankers that's it. Sadly I couldn't find a company in Virginia that would hire me without a year of experience. So lately ive been doing flatbed but this week I found out about prime inc and they offered me a position in there tanker division. Sounds good so far, .465 cpm and my recruiter told me they average 2000 miles weekly so that makes a decent pay check, I'm not sure about accessorial pay and etc. but its seems like a good company to get your time in. I know a few local tanker jobs that pay a lot of money also so I'm getting the experience as well.

PS.. whatever account you choose, you will win either way. UPS starts off at $25.xx to drive there trucks local and fedex is about the same. Just be safe out there and avoid accidents and tickets because it will determine your future in the industry.
