I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

My first time here so I can't remember that; the shape of the lot did strike us both as a bit odd.

 

I guess I lose points for brains; was supposed to be in the bunk right now but got into a Velocity Channel Overhaulin' marathon. Calling it before I lose any more sleep.

Got to rec 0500 then spent 30 minutes trying to get into the place; they have a sign up that directs traffic away from the entrance to a now defunct gate. It isn't possible to see that the gate is non functional until you are already committed. This leaves your trailer sticking out in traffic. To correct the situation you have to 90° back up blind into a busy five lane then do a U-turn to get back to the entrance you were directed away from in the first place.

Nobody here to complain to but I sent a detailed message to Dispatch about the situation, emphasizing the risk to people's lives and Gordon's equipment. We'll see if they address it. This is a totally unacceptable misuse of signage. Any reasonable person who hasn't been here before will do exactly what I did. Somebody is going to drive into a trailer at 45 mph.

Apparently they've changed how they do things and closed the gate at the center of the building, but they need to change the signs (or at the very least remove the one directing people away from the entrance).

 

Picking up a preloaded trailer in Colton to deliver in Cheyenne Wednesday. Seeing about early delivery since I don't need 5 days to go 1000 miles.

 

Should have slept more last night. Ugh.

 

Stopped in Barstow at the Hook for the night; 0330 wake up time today caught up to me. Early start tomorrow. Good news is Vail Pass looks dry this weekend as do the rest of the highways on my route. Cold, but dry.

 

Told Dispatch about the situation at that receiver. They told safety. Safety told CSR. CSR called customer and verified against Google. Directions were revised to prevent what happened to me since customer says they can't take sign down (uh huh). Revised directions were sent to me for my thoughts since I had just been there. I approved heartily; if I had gotten those directions I wouldn't have gone through what I did. I got profuse Thanks for helping keep drivers safe, an apology for the ordeal, and an hour's detention.

Guess that worked out okay.
