Ok trucker community, my brother and I are set this Monday to start orientation and will be on the road soon. Starting out in the winter will be an adventure but you gotta start some time. Also I know there is a difference in necessities and wants. Our wants will come with time(fridge, coffee maker, etc.) Right now we're looking for the necessities. I've tried to do as much research as I can so far, to help us with what will need incase a problem occurs and we will be somewhat prepared (although I know you cannot be 100% prepared for all the unexpected things that can happen in the road) Here is a list of what we've came up with along with what we have read about (found some great tips and information on this site) Any additional information or tips you guys want to throw on here will be appreciated. Thanks guys!
1. Week and a half worth of clothes
2. Toolbag (I have my own tools with a variety (hammer, vise grips, channel locks, etc.)
3. Kitty litter or rock salt (Dont know which is better but I know is a must for traction if you get stuck on a slippers dock/road for traction)
4. Mini sledge hammer and shovel (In case I need to break ice free or anything else I can use them for?)
5. 3 ft. 2x4 (to drive one tire up on so the other lifts off ground and makes it easy to put chains on if needed, along with help if it's raining and slippery and I need some traction)
6. Spare Key (One for myself, my brother, along with one secure under the hood for any situation)
7. Rain-X (some in the windshield wiper container, some on the windshield itself along with a little on the mirrors)
8. Extra fluids (Oil, power steering, coolant, just in case emergency)
9. Extra fuses (more than just what is required for the safety, I'm talking about for all over the truck, even though I'm not exactly sure which ones I will need just yet)
10. Spare glad hand seals (in case trailor were picking up is missing them)
11. Zip ties (in case wiper arms need temporary fix until can get repaired or any other problem may occur I can rig up with em)
12. Twine (if electrical or air lines to long and on catwalk and need to be tied up or any other problem I can use it for)
13. bungee cords (maybe this would work better for the electrical/air line to long problem, if not I still rather have them if I needed them along the way)
14. Super glue (don't know why just seems like it could be helpful one day haha)
15. Flashlight and Headlamp (for pretrip and headlamp if I have to try an fix something at night)
And that's what we have so far lol.
I know it's not perfect but I think it's a good start and any extra things you guys can throw in or feedback on the current list will be very much appreciated!
Thanks and Safe Travels!!!

7. Rain-X (some in the windshield wiper container, some on the windshield itself along with a little on the mirrors)
You can't just use a little.
To be truly useful it has to be applied several times - correctly.
That means a couple or three generous coats, between which you rub off the excess.
To be really effective it has to close all the little pores in the glass.
That takes some effort.
The best way to use it, that I have found, was to use a flat folded paper towel to apply a layer.
Then a soft cotton cloth to rub it in and remove the residue.
Then do it again.
A good hard rain will wash it off, as will using the wipers too much. So be prepared for some more work getting it back on._dsgb Thanks this. -
Cool, I'll be sure to coat the windshield and mirrors heavy, and thanks for the good info about extra gloves and some good coveralls.. and putting some rainx in the windshield wiper container should I do like 50/50 or just a little bit? Idk how much I should do

Decide how you are going to pay for things while out on the road. Having your financial goals in mind is as important as those extra socks.

Yea Pegasus, we both have jobs that are coming to the end of a 2 week notice so we have some put up now, and when we get on the road were going to try to spend the least bit as possible... We both have families so we try to stay as much debt free as we can and stay focused on our priorities.. but you are absolutely right about the finances...
