I Googled the Shelby Daytona Coupe. By dint of sheer effort and absolutely amazing willpower, I managed to not completely embarrass myself in public.
That car is downright S E X Y!! It would be nice to have a street legal production model. The stuff wild dreams are made of, sigh....
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

I used to be able to get excited about cars like that. 21 years of dealership life took care of that.bigred81 Thanks this.

There is a South African company called Superformance that will build you a road going replica, minus drive train. They can be spec'ed with air, power windows, cruise, even a sound system (snort). There are a few dealers stateside that can import it for you and install your engine and transmission so you have a turnkey vehicle.
They mostly do Cobras, though. Good ones with interiors modified for comfort. One of their Cobras runs just under $40K (plus import costs/engine/tranny/installation).
They don't import them with drive trains so they can be imported as parts not cars--much much cheaper.
If you're more the hands on type there's a company called Factory Five Racing that does kits (extremely high quality) of a few versions of the Cobra. Well South of $10K, a donor Mustang, your blood sweat and tears, and you got a Cobra. Same arrangement for their Daytona Coupe, I believe. They also offer a '32 Ford that handles, as well as a couple of original design mid engine super cars (Corvette donor required for one of them).
I'm too big of an enthusiast to ever get jaded. My wife thinks I missed my calling and should have been an automotive journalist.brsims Thanks this. -
Well you were in car sales. That's kind of like writing fiction right????? Lol
I must confess I was in the car dealership business from 93-08. Not on the dark side of the building though...Captain Zoom and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
Which side is the "dark side"? Sales?MJ1657 Thanks this.

I started out as a parts counterman. Did that gig from 93-01. I then moved up to parts manager until 03 I believe then I became parts/service manager. Somewhere around 05 or 06 I became the fixed ops director. Rode that out until our dealer principal lost his many dealerships and went to prison.
Only thing I miss is some of the people and the pay checks. -

I thought there would be more money as a Parts Manager. The automotive industry is intriguing to me, I've often considered changing careers to the sales side. But trucking is all I know.Dominick253 and MJ1657 Thank this.
