You already have more then enough reason to park it.you as a new driver can inspect that fifthwheel all day but unless you know exactly what you're looking for you'll likely miss the most obvious.if you drive this truck for the next week knowing how dangerous it is then guess what, it's only going to get worse the entire time employed there.ever hear of that old saying, give him an inch he'll take a mile?that's exactly what your boss will do,take advantage of you .no job is worth the stress and headaches.americanmadetrucker Thanks this.

I just told the boss that I wasn't driving that truck, and he said that he would have someone else run it. It's all hitting the fan right now.
This sucks!!!Mudguppy, RMU91, daf105paccar and 9 others Thank this. -
I hit the thank button because you stood your ground.good for you.White_Knuckle_Newbie and americanmadetrucker Thank this.

Place an anonymous call in to the state police in regards to the issues with the truck and where it is heading. It might just be pulled over for a "random" roadside inspection and placed OOS. Sucks for the driver who decided to drive it off the lot, but it sure as hell beats seeing somebody get killed.

Thanks. And, thank you all for your input. Rookie status is sucky. It's been a long time since I have been a rook.
RMU91 Thanks this. -
They cannot fire you for a legitimate safety issue.
When looking at the fifth wheel, besides looking at the position of the handle, or bolt that sticks out the front if it has one, use a flash light, get under the trailer and shine the light at the rear opening of the fifth and look to see that the jaws are fully clamped around the king pin of the trailer.
I had a Fontaine that was finicky about how much crud was gathering up at the base of the jaws. Detach your trailer, and just use a large screw driver and scrape out what ever you can in the area where the jaws and king pin meet.Djfan Thanks this. -
So what now Djfan, are you going home?
-
Companies can do anything they want no matter how unfair it is,im proof of that.only I sued.Djfan Thanks this.

Common sense, isn't that common. You used it today. Good for you.
