i have the solution!!!! Let's get the Chinese to do it for a cheaper rate and get rid of us overpaid, lazy american drivers. You could pack 50 or so in a truck and it would never have to stop! For about 1.00 a day!

Sorry, couldn't resist a little sarcasm

It annoys me when articles are written making it seem like they're just "doing their parts" by shutting down the idling. Can't afford NOT to shut down is one thing, being in a place where you can sleep comfortably without idling to cool things off is great, if you can find temps low enough to do that.

Hubby's been shutting it off when he can, too, but I'll be da*ned if he can sit there when it's hot enough to make you sick just baking away in that truck. Frostbitten toes aren't a good thing in the winter, either. He works too da*ned hard to not be comfortable in his rolling red jail cell. It amazes me how these idiots think it's just fine for someone who's living in their truck for two and three weeks at a time to try to make ends meet to have to just deal with the temps without idling. They sure as hell wouldn't do that in their own homes, you can bet your fanny on that, and it's pretty much the same thing!!!

If the government wants to cut down on trucks idling, then they should use some of those billions of tax dollars to fund a campaign to help every truck on the road get equipped with an APU unit and make it mandatory that all commercial vehicles must have working heat/air. If everyone could afford the APUs, then more could have them and save $$ to give the gov't., right? Win-lose, still with the trucker losing, but who's not used to that?
