Does anyone have a special way of really cramming a 53' box full?
I'm running up against a wall, and its literally the wall.
Just stuffing my pallets in there, I can fit 26 of them, but my coworker says he has a better way. (Leave it to a Chinese guy)
He says that by turning a few of the pallets sideways, that I can load 32 pallets, which would save me a lot of stress!
Has anyone heard of this method, or tried it?
I know we can squeeze an extra 2 pallets in our 20' box using his way. I was just curious if anyone else has a pattern to maximize the used space.

depending on how tall you skids are you could deck the freight on load bars, as well as pinwheeling the skids to fit more in. and he's right, if you turn all the skids (assuming they are 40" wide) you can load 30 in a 53' swingdoor trailer.

GiantBeard Thanks this. -
You can get 30 skids in if they are all turned sideways (assuming "standard" 40"X48" pallets. That will give you 3' left over. You can't fit 32 standard skids in a 53' trailer. You need several more inches to do that.
16 rows X 40 inches = 640 inches, which is over 53 feet.GiantBeard and Pintlehook Thank this. -
standard 53's,loaded normally,, attains 98% cubes vs 93% put in sideways..can be pain in the butt tho vs time/money wasted, some dont have forklift slots!!

GiantBeard and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
Plus, depending on the freight, 26 skids in straight will be plenty weight-wise when the tandems are slid forward to Cali-legal.

30 skids on a 53 footer, all sideways. But the product has to be nice and straight. Lol.GiantBeard and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

Also, @GiantBeard, "Pinwheeling" is where you turn one sideways and put one in straight, then reverse them the next row. That allows for 28 skids.

We only get 26 skids on a 53 using the "pinwheel" method.GiantBeard Thanks this.

Weight isn't an issue. It's lettuce. Starting my run out the door, East of Banning, I wish I were heavier sometimes, when the wind gets pushy.
If I can fit 30 in, all sideways, hell, I'll make it happen. This thing is packed, back to front, floor to ceiling, and loose boxes filling in the cracks.
The receiver won't accept the loose boxes though, so those only help when I'm at the other farm.
I'm trying to avoid my boss trying so send a less than loaded mid-week delivery of about 8 pallets, between my normal 2 deliveries.
I'd be all about it, if they could harvest and load me in less than 10 hours, but I only have a small window of time to do the run legal, and reach the receiver, and then the other farm, which they're not good about keeping in mind. -
On a 48 footer?
26 should fit in all straight in a 53 (13 rows X 4 feet = 52).ajohnson Thanks this.
