Today at one of my stops the guys asked me how our big trucks do in the snow and I said well not all the great if you don't have enough weight over the drive axles. I said to them like you're parking lot here if it was all covered in ice and snow pack I would be stuck. They then said "Yeah another company we buy from came here this week and the driver did this screwy jack knife move in the unplowed unpaved section of parking lot that this place has and sure enough got him self stuck. The guys at the restaurant said they were able to get him out using like 30 bags of rock salt and a shovel. I told them you know if I see an un- plowed lot or a little bit of snow on the ground I just call it quits then and there I won't pull in to somewhere, where I'll get stuck.

Anyone have info on mclane or pfg. I live in Texas and pfg is paying 19 an hour and mclane pays by mile stop n case I think. Mclane claims 74k average yearly. Is that about right in the food delivery biz?

Yes McLane is high performance but pays good money. Learning curve will be steep in the beginning but you'll figure it out and do well.

I made a little over 75k last year, doing two overnight routes with the occasional extra route on my off days. My normal weeks I logged 38-42 hours. But, I was injured and on light duty for six weeks at $15/hr.

I don't know how McLane pays in Texas, but our training pay here is considerably more than $19/hr.

I took a PFG driver out for a road test once, and he told me he made $210/day. Didn't matter if it was a ball buster 1400 case local, shuttle, or an easy overnighter.

    I make $210 before lunch.

They guarantee 1000 a week so I'm assuming that's what training pay is. how many days do you work a week?

I work four days a week. Depends on the bid, but it's usually two long days and two short(er) days.

I'm gone overnight twice, but I'm home a lot. Way more than when I had a 'local' job, and make more money.

But how hard are you working to make that money?

To me, having to fingerprint 1000 cases on a trailer with an inside delivery at every stop isn't worth another 100 or so net.

    Just my opinion though.

Yeah, this. PFG pays dick for food service. McLane pays probably the best. When i was at MBM I met a guy one night (who took my usual parking spot at the hotel :) ) who worked for PFG. We talked pay and he was all excited that he was guaranteed 925 a week. All I could think was I was going to make more than that for my 30 hour run (2.5 days).

It varies. Some days are worse than others. I pace myself. But I need the physical activity, because I like to eat :D
I like the fact that I work a day and a half twice a week.

Servicing chain restaurants is a little different than broad line food service. I park next to the building and have a straight shot into the door, for the most part. I don't have to park on the street or across the parking lot, go up and down steps, and all the other fun stuff.

$925 ain't bad for not working.

Now, if he worked four days and they kicked in an extra $100 to get him to $925, eff that.
