Doesn't matter really I know the first year is the worst what I meant was would they have me Do the practice when I get with a trainer or would they make me stay longer at the orientation to practice then send me with a trainer after I have got better
-
You should be fine. It's like @ethos said, the initial road test at training companies is just to see where you're at. They should put you with a trainer after orientation. You'll get plenty of practice out in the field.
-
That's usually what trainers are for. But you will get plenty of backing experience at the terminal or you should anyway. Speak up if you want more don't just go with the flow. Trucking is not a stay quiet kind of job, if you're silent then people tend to think you're happy. So speak up, to trainers, dispatchers etc.Ky Trucker25 Thanks this.

My first job was with FFE and we had a road test then a yard test. We had to to straight line and 90 pretty relaxed enviroment but did have to pass backing before you could go with a trainer. Truthfully you learn more in a week on your own than anything else. I had two trainers and both sucked.

Be careful with Watkins Shepard if you're nervous about your skills...They do a long orientation then you're on your own !
-
Yeah that was my thought but it's best to ask you never learn if you don't and I agree with that you should get plenty of practice while with a trainer
-
Yeah there to far from me They won't let truck go home so I can't I'm looking at tmc Melton and swift
-
What part of Kentucky are you located ?
-
It's unlikely any company will want you to do the parallel parking. Usually they just want you to properly hook up to a trailer, drive a couple of miles then return to the terminal and back into a spot.
While on the road test, don't hit any curbs, come to a complete stop at stop signs, use turn signals.
If you don't pass that and they send you home, then go with another company that has training such as Millis Transfer, Roehl Transport, Carolina Logistics, Earl Henderson Trucking.
You're just nervous and will probably be ok. Give it a try and see what happens.Ky Trucker25 and ethos Thank this.
