I remember the name from somewhere. I also think I was reading a 'blog' he started and it ended up with someone saying he was banned from TTR for life for some reason. But I'll see if I can find it.
I read through all the 'DieselFuelOnly' full edition books on here and thought his comments offered full insight, good and bad, into Schneider. I had read decent things about them before, but after days of reading his comments, I felt confident Schneider would be a good fit for me, quite possibly until I retire. -
What are you doing for work now and your age?
-
I am not working right now, by choice, although I do have some income from the stock market although not today!! Actually, the last year has been rough and this is the primary reason I need to find a way to earn money. My age is classified and you know the old saying, "I could tell you but ............................"

Find a cheaper private school. I paid $1800, 2 years ago, no reason to pay over $2500, but private is the way to go, gives you more options

Stock market is crashing.
Truck orders are down.
Factories laying off workers.
Trucking schools closing down.
Lots of cheap freight.
Grab a cdl while you can quickly,and rule #..dont hit ####! -
I agree that the economy is looking pretty grim right now and that fact definitely concerns me. There are a few economists predicting we will enter a technical recession later this year. That is one good argument for considering driving reefer; no matter how bad the economy is people still need to eat.
-
You're correct. Another positive about reefers is during the slow season for trucking, reefer freight actually picks up. People buy more food for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year.
-
It is something I am considering as I may be entering this industry on the front end of a recession. I've read thousands of posts on this site, many from 2007 through 2009 and it sounds like it was a pretty ugly ride for drivers.
Driving reefer may offer some job security but unlikely much more money if a recession does in fact hit. If we suffer a complete collapse of the country and everything shuts down 100%, I would hope I am hauling a load with 90% hot buffalo wings and 10% I scream. At least I would have something to eat. -
I pulled reefers most of my career. I sometimes complained about grocery warehouses, but in retrospect, overall it was good and made good money. I prefer the OTR reefers and there's some good outfits that hire new cdl grads.
There's some food service that hire new cdl grads and even cdl permit holders and are local runs. I wouldn't like those runs, but some do.
Some that hire with cdl permits as driver helpers:
Sygma Network
Gordon Food Service
McLane Company
A couple days ago I received a private message from a guy with a permit and he was hired by Sygma Network this week.
If I were a new cdl grad looking for OTR, I'd go with:
Freymiller
Magnum Ltd.
Abilene Motor Express
Tyson Foods
Navajo Express
There's a few more good ones, but I like these.
