I just accepted a run on Friday that I am 5 weeks from starting. I have no idea why I accepted it but I immediately regretted it. I could have said no. I have done the run three times before so I know what I am getting myself into. Thing is on this run I am going to be teaching a rookie the ropes while he drives his truck and I drive mine. It was either no one goes or we both go and the rookie really wanted to go. So have you ever taken a run you didn't want to and regretted the entire way?

The runs I dread usually start after ordering a combo meal around 2am at Taco Bell.

Sure, I take them all the time.Gets me great stuff to go with the bad stuff. Remember, when you do something no one else wants to do, your dispatcher should remember it the next time you need a favor. Sometimes you have to remind them, though.

I have noticed that if you take a unfun run, and do it cheerfully everytime. Usually the guys that complain about said run get it more often.

Well the boss is letting me pick the way back which is nice since I will be going an extra 200 miles from the shortest route. I haven't told him why yet but it is so I have some time on a shorter day to get the truck clean. I can't stand a filthy truck. I unfortunately have been the go to guy for them for the last two years taking all of the runs no one wants. Hopefully if I train the new guy right he will take a few more runs. Now if I can just trick him into getting his passenger endorsement.

I have taken fun runs. I really like the Indy to Denver runs. Any time one of those comes up I take it as I am a sucker for them.

That's the way to do it. Then they will think of you when the runs you like pop up. Letti in our dispatch office does outbound loads from El Paso most of the time and knows I like the northwest runs to Washington and Oregon. So when she has one on her desk and knows I'm inbound, she'll hold it and offer me it first because I've taken plenty of crap short runs to San Antonio and SoCal runs off her "to do" list.
