It's better to stop and told you don't need to stop then roll by and have them chase you down. When you make them work, it annoys them. NM has been known to do that.

NM is really bad when it comes to nepotism especially in government jobs. So when you get half of a family working in the same department / location, they get used to not having to do anything because their boss is their uncle or cousin or something so when you actually force them to do something they get a little irritated.

This is from the Wyoming Dot website.
Some of the most frequently asked questions we hear, along with the answers, are listed here. We hope we cover the information you require most.
Q. Do I have to stop at all ports in the State of Wyoming?
A. You are required to stop anytime you see a regulatory sign (black letters on a white background) instructing you to stop or an officer has directed you to stop. Pre-pass vehicles which receive an in-cab green light may continue, providing they are not hauling livestock or do not have an oversize or overweight load. Example of POE signage:
- All commercial Vehicles
- Transport operators
- Livestock haulers, and
- Deliveries into Wyoming
Q. Why did that vehicle get the green light and I had to come in?
A. The green light is primarily given to vehicles that we know are properly qualified since they come through the location quite often. The green light may also be used when the port officer is busy with other duties. Always remember if you receive the green light you may proceed providing the vehicle is properly qualified and is legal size & weight.
Q. Why was I chosen for an inspection?
A. Trucks and drivers are chosen for inspection on a random basis. Remember, the more times your log books or vehicles are inspected, and found in order, the better chance your company has to improve their safety rating.
Q. What can I do if I have a good/bad experience at a port of entry?
A. If you have comments (positive or negative) about your contact with and individual or port, please contact the Wyoming Highway Patrol at this email: WHP.Customer.Comments@wyo.gov or simply write a letter and address it to Wyoming Highway Patrol 5300 Bishop Boulevard Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340
Now what is the definition of a commercial vehicle? Look into the FMCSA regulation 390.5
Commercial motor vehicle means any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in interstate commerce to transport passengers or property when the vehicle—
(1) Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater; or
(2) Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or
(3) Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or
(4) Is used in transporting material found by the Secretary of Transportation to be hazardous under 49 U.S.C. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding under regulations prescribed by the Secretary under 49 CFR, subtitle B, chapter I, subchapter C.
Be careful with this. If it were I , I would pull in! Just to let you know a blowing a scale/POE ticket can run into the thousands of dollars. DON'T RISK IT! -
Uhaul isn't a commercial vehicle, it is a rental for the general public to use.
BUT that said, commercial rental and lease vehicles would have to stop. -
When are you all going to realize that local state laws over ride federal guidelines ? The girl asked a simple question about Wyoming .
If you're going by just weight ,10,001 lbs may be the federal guideline but if the state of Wyoming says it's 26,001 lbs it over rides that federal guideline .. S*it ,there are some states where you can register a class 8 tractor as a personal vehicle and never stop at any weight station in said state
Just because we have the 2nd amendment doesn't mean that we can open carry in Manhattan how we do in Arizona does it ?? -

^^ I agree with you . Sometimes it's just better to bite your tongue then to be right ,especially something minuscule like this just to save 5 minutes vs a possible nightmare pain in the ### law enforcement agency
clausland Thanks this. -
This is kind of my thought as well. Not only does it vary by state it varies by the officer inside the port. Officer A might just wave you through where officer B will bust your chops. In the end I think the best way to get any question like this answered is to go to the source and ask!

A dealer delivering a vehicle is obviously engaged in commercial activity. When I ran WY with an under 26,000 vehicle, I had to stop at the ports. Nice chance for a pottie break and a leg-stretch.
