My husband has wanted to drive trucks since he was 17, and ever since he first heard about Millis, he's wanted to work for them. This is his last week on his current job, then next Monday he'll start at Cartersville. He'll be coming home weekends, since we're only half an hour away. He got his CDL in November, has been driving a recycling truck ever since. He's really looking forward to it all, even school, and I'm looking forward to going out with him later on. I just wish they had a pet rider program, we have one cat who's spoiled rotten, and who would love going on the road, as she LOVES riding.
Hubby's had a lot of questions, and Jazz has answered them all and then some, and been very helpful. My hat's off to her, for sure!
Anybody else starting in Cartersville July 21? Hubby will be easy to spot, he'll be the one with the goofy grin
Kathy
P.S. He's watching a video, he just fell in love with the Cascadia lol

good luck to your husband. i will keep an eye out for him. as for the cascadia, his trainer might have one, but there is no chance for him to get one of his own. millis only got 30 of them and they went to the senior drivers and the drivers who put on alot of miles. he will most likely end up with an '06 kw t-2000. a friend of mine who works for millis as well has one and loves it, but i still am driving the t-2000 i have had for a long time now.

So I read just about this whole thread...
What is this that people are talking about going through the school, and with a trainer and then being let go of the last week before going out on their own? Anyone with firsthand knowledge of this? firsthand expierence? Would like to get on with them, and been talking to the recruiter and I shouldn't have a problem getting on with them, but would like to know what I am getting myself into with Millis before I make the plunge.
Thanks. -
My husband went with Millis and he did all the schooling went with the trainer and after about 5-6 weeks got let go. Read some of his threads. He is telling the truth and did want to drive for them and now that they let him go they want him to pay for the schooling. They also want him to pay double the cost of over $4ooo. He did not do anything wrong and the website says 5-8 weeks with the trainer and if you need longer, I heard some guys were out longer and still got hired. My husband is a patient and quiet guy gets along with everyone. I do not trust Mike Millis for what he did, I think most of the schools are scams and I hope the government should shut them down. Whatever you do watch what you sign. Millis has you sign papers and if you quit or do not get hired you owe them double the schooling. We are still fighting with them because my husband did nothing that he didn't get hired or quit, it is a breach of contract. So I'm reporting them to the a few places. They also wanted to log illegal and drive before the 10 hour break. It is just a warning, I'm just letting you know what happened, Oh by the way, all the schooling and training and getting let go he still had no cdl. You do not go for the cdl test till you are done with the trainer. So they want us to pay all that money and no license. My husband has moved on and has his cdl now and is training with another company.

BikerDon,
Thanks for your input, I know I read about the issues on another forum...but man, I have been talking to them, and other drivers I know and it is so hard to make a decision......here...
Would any drivers from Millis be willing to contact me regarding some private issues/questions here? Please contact me and help me make a decision... -

Talked to the recruiter again, and had a lot of questions answered...will you guys confirm...
NO West of Mississippi except occasional Dallas, but most TX stuff is regional...
$80 Lumper reimbursement, only 10% Driver Unload
You take truck home during hometime
.32 to start, .03 bonus if 2000-2499 .04 if 2500-3000
Seemed pretty strict regarding idle policies, but they said lately they have released 5 drivers due to ignoring idle requests...
Alot of glass/rubbermaid loads
Can pay for school up front, but still need to sign contract to get hired/go with driver trainer
If you need to get home, pretty reasonable about getting home, especially since they don't go West of Mississippi...
How is travel the NE, recruiter said alot of time in between St. Louis, Milwaukee, Indiana, Wisconsin, and occasional Dallas runs... Ok I think that is enough for now...
THANKS GUYS...
Now what about this class being cancelled, anyone hear anything else about that? or about drivers going almost all the way through with a trainer and then being let go, even though they are supposedly doing a good job???
Looking at the August 25th class in Richfield, if everything lines up right... -
Good luck in Richfield, I live close
Try the sawmill inn, and of course they are right across from the holy hill exit truck stop, good food!!!!! -
Thanks for the eating advice.....now back to this lumper statement.........
