Guys, I need some guidance!
I lived in the US for 1-year (2010) and had a California license for 12 months.
I then left the States to work abroad.
I came back to the US August, 2015 with a new Green Card. I have held an Indiana drivers license ever since.
I contacted the BMV and I can get a CDL no problem. My question is, will trucking companies hire me given my limited driving experience in the States? I guess, I am concerned about it from an insurance point of view.
I am hoping to get a LTL position...thinking I might have to wait till August, 2016 so I have at least 2-years driving experience in the US under my belt.
I am 35 years old and have held and overseas driving license since 1999. I would appreciate any guidance or feedback. Thanks sooooooooooo much!!
License - will this work?

Didn't they pass a law saying you have to be a US citizen to hold a valid CDL.
-
I am a legal permanent resident

I do not think so - the BMV confirmed I can get a CDL. Thanks for your response! -

Many companies will hire you. Some are picky about how long you've held a drivers license and some don't care. Will you attend a private cdl school or company cdl school?
nickgouws Thanks this. -
Nope, here legally not a citizen.ajohnson Thanks this.

No, that would be illegal, you can not prevent someone with a work visa from workingnickgouws Thanks this.

Your main problem might be a verifiable work history. Many starter companies require 10 years.

All I know is to get mine renewed I had to show the revenue office my birth certificate. I remember getting a letter in the mail but didn't read it cause it didn't really pertain to me. Hard for me to believe they give drivers license to illegal aliens but I'm just a country boy really don't know for sure

I guess reading comprehension is not too big with you, right?
The OP has a green card, which means 'not illegal'.
The OP has every right to be here and work here, and yes even a CDL.
And you got a letter but didn't read it because it didn't pertain to you - and without reading a letter addressed to you, you could be sure that it had nothing to do with you.
That all seems to be the same logic as the people that brought in the Core garbage to education.
Pretzel logic, but at its worst.
Even in pretzel logic, the ends have to join at some point.Giuseppe Ventolucci, nickgouws and Blackshack46 Thank this.
