Opening up this can of worms again since everything I read on TTR while researching the subject was as clear as Miss Mud.

A "Hunter's" permit is issued by the state and is a legal vehicle registration in all IRP member jurisdictions. That is regardless of which state issues the permit all other IRP participants MUST recognize it as a legal registration. NO TRIP PERMITS REQUIRED. Its stated specifically in the IRP doc's that the reason for the hunter's permit is to eliminate unnecessary citations when an O/O is looking for work. Reference IRP Art V, sec 530.

I've been able to find specific mention of the Hunter's permit in each state's published online lit covering vehicle registration. Each state that I've looked into that is.

    Example, Missouri; Section 301.266 RSMo

You are still required to meet IFTA requirements for each state. Some have exemptions that directly cover newly purchased vehicles or vehicles not currently required to display a USDOT number.

I'm moving my tractor from OK to OH tomorrow and to prevent any problems I've made a list of each state's applicable rule by section and subsection. If I still get a ticket its gonna be purely through officer ignorance.

    Your own authority?
I bought my tractor in AZ where I live, but had to BT to Texas where the company I'm leased on is.
The company was listed on the cab card as MC responsible for safety.
I had my own insurance to BT.
Truck is registered to me & finance company.
I will tell you this, keep a log book. Bear stopped me in Texas and gave me the easiest, road side, clean Level 2 you will ever get just because I had that log book.

    Puppage Thanks this.

Dave, if he had his own authority he would wouldn't need a hunter permit.

Bean Jr., mp4694330 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
