I have a 2012 780 with a d13.. just recently, the dryer goes off every 20 seconds or so. when the dryer goes off you can immeditly here air right around the compressor. i soaped everything up but its hard to see the whole thing. when im under the truck as soon as the dryer goes off you can feel air slowly flowing out of the dryer. the air leak sound goes off as soon as the slow flowing air stops coming out of the dryer(when the compressor comes back on)
hope that makes sense. i dont show any air loss at the gauges. is this just a leaky govenor?
compressor was replaced about 5 months ago
thanks for the help

there is a signal hose on the compressor its 1/4 inch line going into a fitting at the head of the compressor most likely it's leaking badly and droping the signal that shuts off compressor. it should be blue or black color
Snailexpress, KB3MMX and CasanovaCruiser Thank this. -
Thanks!
That was it. Barely touched ot and it came right offKB3MMX Thanks this. -
This happened to me before but the main air line leading to the governor was bad.
Luckily an easy fix, glad you got it worked out. -
Well the fitting is bad. Going to get the compression style to replace it but when i held the line in you could still here air slowly leaking somewhere around the dryer. Maybe its leaking back there too

Look on the frame rail behind the batteries. There is a square plastic distribution box with about 6 air lines plugged in. The one on my old 2012 780 leaked like crazy and it caused all kinds of problems.
The first thing was the dryer popping off every 20 to 30 seconds.
That box also has a couple unused ports on it that takes a plastic plug....I had one of those blow out too. -
Ok, its fixed. It was just that fitting after all. Stupid thing is the thread on that fitting is m16x1.5. Of course nothing can be easy. That would take all the fun out of it. Unfortunately its still one of those lame push on connectors. Oh well...
You guys are awsome. Thanks for the help -
Glad you got it fixed! I know that dryer popping off all the time drove me nuts!
Mine did not have an APU so I had to try and sleep with that......Not fun.
On those push on connectors i have cut a little of the line off with a razor blade then push them back on and they seal up....about a 50/50 chance of that working. -
Yeah, what drove me nuts about it was the uncertainty of the cost to fix it and the not so suble reminder ever 20 seconds that it was broke. Loud audible air leak too.
I cut and replaced the airlines on the pass through of the fire wall but only one actually sealed. So had to replace the whole thing. I guess manufactures use them to save time? Either way they suckEZ Money Thanks this. -
I ended up getting a few various sizes from Fleet pride and keeping them in the tool box.
Spent about 30 bucks but have some backup parts.
Every connection on Volvo and many of these newer trucks are the quick connects.....I guess that saves them a bunch of time on the assembly line..
