Guarantee, no ofcourse not! You first must pass the school then go to orientation and jump through the hoops then probably go OTR with a trainer for 6 weeks or so. After all that they decide if youre up to it and you decide if you want it or not.

Pre-hire letters are worth the paper they're printed on, sometimes less.
99% of the time it's just some "feel good" thing they send out to naive newbies in order to make them think that the prospective carrier they (the student) received the letter from is really interested in them and will be holding a spot just for them. US Xpress, and companies like it, send out thousands of letters every week and they're all equally worthless.White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
"pre-hire" is just the first step. It simply means you look good on paper as a prospective driver. You now have to finish school, get accepted at the truck co after filling out an app, attend orientation, pass a physical, pass a road test, get past 30 days without any problems, then you'll be on your way as a driver. (for that co)

Pre-hire is also a psychological ploy in that many new drivers jump on the first job offer and ignore what else is available. Many companies with junk accounts they have trouble keeping drivers on will flood cdl schools with pre-hires.

About 50% of folks that attempt to get a CDL are successful. About 50% of folks that get "prehired" and show up for orientation are successfully hired and start training. About 50% that start training make it and test out and go solo/team.
When I went through orientation at Swift 41 started and 18 were hired. Most washed out the first day, which included a drive test, drug test, and physical. Day two more washed out as background checks found "issues".
Most large companies send out prehire letters but haven't done anything regarding background checks. BC's really start after you pass the drive test, drug test, and physical. Then they aren't wasting their time on hopeless cases.
What amazed me was how many show up to orientation and either fail or refused a drug test. Absolute idiocy.Toomanybikes, Longarm, White_Knuckle_Newbie and 2 others Thank this. -
Years ago when I went to Swift (2006-ish) we started out with about 22 people for a 3-day orientation. Swift didn't do in-house drug testing at this particular terminal when I was there, so they carted us one van load at a time to a local clinic. There were 7 or 8 of us in the van trip I took and 3 guys failed right then and there since the clinic used the "test strip" method. As soon as we all had given a sample we returned to the terminal and those 3 guys, along with about 6 more from other van trips, were immediately sent packing. Before lunch time, the "class" was reduced from 22 to 13.
On the second day, only 10 of us showed up. During the course of the day, 2 guys failed the physical portion in the afternoon and another one had an undisclosed issue and was sent home. From 10 to 7 by the end of day 2. By day 3, only 5 of us remained out of the original 22. Lunchtime rolled around and 2 more guys left and never came back. Now there were 3. Strange coincidence though, one of the remaining two people besides myself was a guy I had worked with in a call center a couple years before.
After the official orientation portion was over, the three of us that were left came back for a fourth day to do a driving test and the other dude that I didn't know, not my previous coworker, hit a pole with the trailer when he pulled out of the driveway. Needless to say, he was gone right then and there. I kept in contact with the guy I knew since he and I were the only people out of the entire group to actually be assigned to a trainer.
He made it two weeks before quitting.
I made it it five weeks.Toomanybikes and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I got two pre hire letters many years ago. Stevens and Werner. 2 hour plane ride to Dallas or 2 day bus ride to Omaha.
I was never cut out to be a corn husker.Chinatown Thanks this.
