That is some depressing math ha! and makes me glad I didn't go with swift.
It reminds me of sales, if you've ever had the pleasure, the manager will talk like this,
"Call 50 people, get 30 people who pick up the phone, 10 curse you out, 20 are interested and 18 don't have good enough credit. 2 buy, and then 1 changes his mind = 1 sale"
and then they smile and gleefully say, "See, it's just a numbers game!"

Since I didn't lie on my full applications I know the pre hire letters I've received carry some weight. I also know I have a lot to learn before I ever attend any orientation. Stay motivated and be realistic is my current mantra...
White_Knuckle_Newbie Thanks this. -
The Averitt recruiter was the one that suggested so strongly that I go to a particular driving school. He made it seem like they particularly liked hiring people out of that school. But when it came down to it, they didn't like how I was let go from a company I worked for years ago.
Some companies have a problem with accidents. I had the most minor of accidents someone could have had in a vehicle, 3 years ago. I rear ended someone in bad weather conditions. Minor damage. No one got hurt. Everyone drove away from the accident. I didn't even receive a ticket for the accident. But Schneider, wasn't willing to hire me. There loss. But they were more than willing to hire a friend of mine in driving school that had committed a felony (a violent act) and my friend even did time.
All companies are different. The prehire letter doesn't mean anything. All of the companies are interested in you, now- and some may not be after they work through your whole application, credit, background check, motor vehicle history etc etc.
What's more important than anything, what company are you interested in and why?Bob Dobalina and fjrgerry Thank this. -
My interest is in companies that have an overall good reputation and can get me into dedicated or regional routes asap after training.

But, things do open up with experience, from 3mos to 6 up to a year-- all kinds of things change as far as who will hire you.White_Knuckle_Newbie and fjrgerry Thank this. -
You wanna know the truth about a 'prehire'? It means you filled out an application. The company assumes two things about you based on said application. You can spell your name and address correctly and 2; you have a pulse. That's it. They aren't wasting time and money (rightfully so) running background checks on someone who may never even finish training, much less come to work for them.
My long deceased grandmother could get prehires by the bushel if I filled out the aps for her.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -

Most pre-hire letters come wrapped in paper,
labeled Charmin. -

If you have told the truth on your application and answered every question honestly a pre-hire letter should mean after orientation you have a job. However if you have things in your past and they are discovered during orientation that pre-hire letter is about as good as toilet paper. The trucking industry is very heavily regulated and the carriers have to be careful. A pre-hire letter is what it is.
