Disagree completely. Chinatown, and others, are 100% right; the pre-hire is just to keep the fresh meat on the hook. It means nothing of substance, it means that they have received your application. That is all.

As example, I too will tell a story about Swift, but don't mistake any other mega-crap-training company as any different. When I went to my Swift orientation, 13 other dudes got their pre-hire letter when I got none. The first thing that was done at orientation was hand back the applications with notes on how to amend them so Swift could hire these 13 dudes. These 'drivers' had applications that Swift couldn't use, some incomplete, some with multiple licenses, some with no licenses, some with no job history, some with no schooling, no addresses, no references, no medical cards, felonies ..... just about everything you could do wrong on a application was done wrong. I handed my application back first thing and said, "If you don't like it let me know now and I will go home." All, except me, had multiple problems on their application that kept Swift from hiring them. All three days of orientation was spent amending these applications so Swift could get these guys in a truck. In fact, practically nothing else was accomplished in these three days of orientation. For three days Swift worked hard for drivers that could not even fill out an application; Swift wanted to put these guys in a truck even if they couldn't fill out an application! After, the three days were wasted babysitting these guys, only about 5 of us made to a training truck. One dude had a friend call him with a good union job while he was fixing his application and left that day. He had already driven for Swift 6 months before but couldn't take the low pay. Another guy just couldn't get the test truck in gear! Swift signed him up for some more schooling in Lewiston. The other 7 never made it to a truck; application problems or medical issues kept them from ever driving for Swift. Of the five that made it to training, only 3 made it out. Of those 3 only I made it more than a month! Pre-hire means nothing, I never got one. The 13 that did either never drove for Swift, never got out of training, or only lasted a month.

For all the young people reading right now that ain't old enough to have a CDL, but may want to drive a truck some day.
Keep your #### clean. Don't go committing crimes, keep DMV records clean, don't lie about stuff.

Thankfully I'm intelligent enough to fill out all my employment applications completely - I wouldn't have it any other way. I also don't lie so no worries there. I've had multiple companies already run their checks on my driving records since I get a letter from the PA DMV stating this. All I need to do is stay motivated and get my CDL A license asap then choose the best company for me.
